I Don't See I To I With ICICI

  • I applied last week and have just got an email asking for two lots of proof of ID signed by "bank/building society official, solicitor, accountant, commissioner of oaths, justice of the peace, legal secretary, member of parliament, police officer or an officer of the armed services."

What a hassle. I don't know anyone who is any of those things. Will they signed them for me if I go into a bank and ask? :o I think my application might stop here

Alliance & Leicester have a 6.75% PlusSaver account if you open one of their current accounts. If you sign up for their current account via Quidco, you get £50 cashback. Excellent service too.

A&L excellent service ? You're having a laugh aren't you or are you the lucky ONE ? They are well known for their shoddy customer service and incompetence just as Abbey are. You just have to read the threads on this forum complaining about them.

Having said that, I'm very satisfied with ICICI ! Have had an account for nearly 2 years now and have never had any cause for concern or complaint whatsoever, but the opening process was easier back then.

*holds up hands* I've had good customer service from A&L so far too! :)

I've held accounts with A&L for 3 years and ICICI for 2 years (but neither now).

I've never had a problem with A&L. In fact my own experience of their CS is that it is very good. On the other hand, I found ICICI to be very difficult to communicate with, either by phone, e-mail or site messaging. When they understood what I wanted, they were actually pretty good, but getting the message across in the first place was extremely frustrating at times.

Example, when one takes a day off work to wait for the pre-arranged time for the plumber to arrive and they don't. I stopped putting up with that malarkey a long time ago. If they don't arrive as stipulated I charge them. :p

I find this extremely irritating too. Have you ever got any of these tardy trades people to pay your penalty charge?

  • I opened a ICICI account a couple of weeks ago and had no problems, it was sorted in just over a week. I filled in the online application, and if I remember correctly they only required my address, nat ins number, and a nominated bank account number and sort code. They then sent me a number by email and letter, which I had to write on the cheque I was posting to them, which also had to have my name printed on it . Bert

Sorry to quote myself, but does anyone know the answer to this? Has anyone ever gone into a bank and asked them to certify something for another bank?? I don't want to make an idiot of myself :o

I think one or two people have been able do this, so it's probably worth trying.
  • I too filled in the online application for the instant savings account... heard nothing back for over a week. I then emailed them... they confirmed receipt of the e-mail, and they said they would get back to me within two working days... it's now three weeks and nothing heard back from them.

I think it's a real shame: they seem to get the service right for some people, but very wrong for others.

I wouldn't mind the length of application, as long as they kept me informed!

Am afraid to say that Sainsbury's Bank now has the pleasure of my non-ISA savings.
  • These guys are SO useless it's untrue. They messed me around so I decided to cancel my application and put my money elsewhere.

I sent email 1 asking them to cancel my application, delete my personal data and confirm they had done so. They replied saying please reconsider. I replied with email 2 saying yes I really do want to cancel (!) so please reply to confirm this has been actioned. They ignored me. I then sent email 3 chasing them up and they have just replied asking me to reconsider (again!) and saying I can only cancel my application by post. What a bunch of idiots.
