I Don't See I To I With ICICI

Bumbling idiots. They can stick their extra few percent wherever they wish.

Day one. "Thank you for your application to open an account. All your details are satisfactory. Confirmation will be sent to you in two days time."

Long yawn, hurry up e-mail and 8 days later.

"Thank you for your e-mail The matter is being attended to and you will hear from us in two days time."

I decide to send then an e-mail cancelling my application because they obviously work to a different calendar than mine - Hindi?

Two days later another e-mail from them.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

We confirm that we have successfully received your
on-line application form. However, your
application is under Manual KYC processing.

We request you to reconsider your decision of
canceling your application and continue to be a part
of the ICICI Bank family."

Now why would anybody with brains want to trust their money with a bunch of bozos like ICICI?

It's a good job they are regulated by the FSA for those who have money with them.

Idiots!

So because a bank didn't open your account fully within 2 weeks, you're walking away?

It took longer to open my Halifax Current Account, and I've had no problems whatsoever since then. Sometimes these things just take a little time.

Err... no. If a business sends me an e-mail saying that matters will be resolved in two days then two days is what I expect - not ten days. Likewise, when I send a cancellation I don't expect to be asked to reconsider when they haven't even resolved the issue or opened the account.

The English disease is always being polite and patient. Example, when one takes a day off work to wait for the pre-arranged time for the plumber to arrive and they don't. I stopped putting up with that malarkey a long time ago. If they don't arrive as stipulated I charge them. Likewise if banks want to be inefficient and fail to honour their commitments then I shall go elsewhere. If we all did the same they would have to improve or go under. Let's be generous and call it an 'incentive' rather than a kick up the !!!!.

  • Hi I'm having trouble opening a savings account with this bank. I have signed and returned the correct form. Then they wrote and said I have to get copies of passport and bills certified by a "bank/building society official, solicitor, accountant, commissioner of oaths, justice of the peace, legal secretary, member of parliament, police officer or an officer of the armed services."

I sent in copies certified by a retired police officer but no, this would not do and they are still demanding that I resubmit the forms.

In exasperation I emailed them to say I wasn't applying for a mortgage had there been some sort of mistake? I have almost 100k to invest and they are behaving as though they are handing me the keys to fort knox. What is it with this bank? Its not as though I'm getting any money from them, why do they need to put me through this ridiculous rigmarole?

It is not their fault: it is our Government and the obsession with money-laundering and combating terrorism. The banks would be breaking the law, with dire consequences for their staff and customers, if they did not force you to go through this ridiculous process. And in fairness, if a bank were willing to accept 100K in used fivers without establishing the source of the money, I would be a little bit worried.
  • Yes I understand that they need to prevent money laundering, but I've sent them copies of passport and bank statement, certified by a retired police officer and despite having these they are still unwilling to accept me as a customer. This seems to go far in of what is being demanded by other banks. Tesco finance did not require these sort of proofs. First Direct just set up new accounts over the phone.

ICICI seem to take this procedure to untenable lengths.

ICICI bozos were still sending me e-mails up until yesterday! Now comparing them with ICE. All done in two days and a nice letter the day after. No problems at all. It just isn't worth the extra few % for all the hassle with ICICI - after all, time is money.

  • I've for similar issues with ICICI with my new account. Starting to regret the application already.
  • I've also had problems with ICICI,they wanted copies of passport, driving licence,Utility Bill etc, verified by a solicitor/doctor,etc, this being a little inconvenient,I offered to send original copies,as I've done this with other Banks no problem, but no that was not acceptable!!!!, they told me to take my original documents into one of there branches!! nearest about 200miles away in Birmingham!!. No Chance!!
Anyway I've joined Icesave, just sent my Driving Licence no Problem.

  • I've justed ordered them to cancel the application.

I sent them evidence signed by a senior legal attorney. That's not enough if an address is not provided! And it took them 3 weeks to find the documents I sent them.

Alliance & Leicester have a 6.75% PlusSaver account if you open one of their current accounts. If you sign up for their current account via Quidco, you get £50 cashback. Excellent service too.

Maybe they didn't happen to have that senior legal attorney's address? Or did you expect them to trust you that (s)he actually signed it?
