It's not that we don't want to mention it. It's just not accurate, alongside the rest of the drivel that you post.
I don't have a desktop. I always had laptops. Now, only a chromebook, and a decent phone.
Of course , a laptop will do more, store more etc, (even for a similar price maybe), but there is nothing it will do, that is any benefit for me. General browsing, You tube, and email, that's all I ever needed, even when I had laptop.0 -

You think because they have a Desktop, that justifies spending money on poor and less capable hardware?
Justify? Do people have to run their purchases past a committee nowadays?0 -
I thought this was a technical section of the forum.
It's amazing how people manage to argue over something that at the end of the day should be personal preference. I bet someone would argue that a red laptop is more powerful than a blue one and no one in their right mind should even consider buying a blue laptop.
I expressed my opinion, I would not buy a Chromebook, but I respect those who do. It's not rocket science. Anyone can value different aspects before buying a product.
There is pretty much no 'technicality' in these discussions to justify the tone of some posts.0 -
Once again, I disagree with the Chromebook owners here. Some of whom paid perhaps £300 for their cheap and nasty devices.
Yes, the devices are fine for basic use, but why pay the same for a device for basic usage when you can buy a device for both basic and intermediate usage?downloading something, streaming and browsing at the same time
That sounds like ..... Why would you be Streaming and Browsing at the same time?
As to technicalities....viewing angles. IPS screens have vastly superior viewing angles. Useful for when two or more people are trying to view the screen at the same time.
That is a technical issue.
Not everything has to be 'dumbed down' to a Chromebook/non-Chromebook choice. It's the quality of the hardware.
That Chromebook at £160 is simply less capable in almost every useful way, apart from possibly battery life.
It is capable of basic usage, but what is the point of that? My ten year old Netbook is capable of basic usage. But I bought it because it was much cheaper than a fully fledged laptop at the time and it was to be used for travel
The Chromebook in this case is not for travel usage, so why buy a crippled machine with low quality components in the place of a business class device with a Full HD IPS screen?
This technical forum has become a bit of a joke with the sorts of 'advice' being given.
Yes, a Chromebook will complete simple tasks, but why would it be more suitable than a better quality laptop with a Full HD IPS screen? That is the question posed.
Not just for the two Chromebook fanboys to pop up with only the fact that it is capable of simple Browsing.0 -
Again, it's a personal choice and it's not worth arguing, simply because there is no winner.
You consider the technical aspects of the question (as I would do), others might value the 'appeal' of a Chromebook, its battery, its simplicity, the fact that Google is cool, the fact that they bought one in the first place and are not missing anything compared to a Windows computer so why saying they made a mistake.
You want to see what a technical discussion should look like? Browse a couple of pages back in this section, there was an argument about which WiFi channels should be used. After listening to endless 'you are talking rubbish', 'that's ridiculous', 'I am an expert, I know', I tried to explain the technical reasons why there was only one correct answer.
In this case there are so many variables (as it's often the case when someone asks 'Which XXXXX should I buy?').
You choose A and explained why you chose that. Now it's up to OP to decide what to do, after reading all the opinions.
(I still don't understand why people buy iPhones when you can get a better device for half the price or less, but there's no point in arguing, it's personal choice)0 -
Quite often I will cast a stream to my tv and then browse the internet, to answer the question above0
-
I think we get the point that Everywhere won't have a Chromebook, doesn't recommend one, can't work out why anyone would have one> I haven't got one but wouldn't rule one out as a second machine for the uses suggested by OP. It may, of course, not be best but the unpleasant and hectoring way this has been done makes me reach towards the ignore button.0

??
That's exactly the reason for argument. Argument doesn't have to viewed negatively.
I've nothing against the posters in question. We are putting forward our arguments and technical positions.
I think they are a waste of money, as the original remit of them is no longer fulfilled.
They were supposed to be low cost and fast. The problem is that you can get a far superior devices these days for the same price.
The question was about a comparison. Chromebook fanboys avoid the comparison. They simply state that you can browse on the device. So where is the advantage in spending money on a Chromebook?
There is simply no point on buying this totally locked down low end device for the OP's intended usage.
If there budget was £100 or less, I wouldn't be raising an objection. But the budget is £150 to £225.
So a Chromebook is not a sensible choice. That's my opinion and I'm happy to argue it with anyone.
I've already told you, it's not personal. British people understand banter. Perhaps I should add more smiley emoticons to denote a good natured argument.
It's not a personal choice. if it were personal, the OP would not be posting here asking for advice. So they want technical advice. Technically, Chromebooks are poorly specified with low end end components. Designed to be low priced. Problem is that you can get good laptops with SSD at similar prices.0 -

Go for it. Then no need for you to read my posts.
It seems that you are the only one here getting 'personal'. Describing your opinion of personal behaviour and nothing to do with the topic. I won't miss your posts and hopefully you won't miss mine.
So please, place me on 'ignore'.0 -

Personally, I don't find that your posts come across as banter. They come across as aggressive, highly opinionated, inaccurate and full of vitriol against whoever disagrees with you0
