A lot of people do it, including a couple we met on the return flight from a holiday last year.
I once did a week's business trip to the USA on hand luggage only... it just requires common sense and planning.
oh wait....The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

Having said that, we rarely fly with carriers where hold luggage is not part of the deal.0 -

My experience, standing waiting at airport luggage carousels over the years would suggest that that is not the case (no pun intended) for the vast majority.
........
I never said it was the vast majority, but it's more than you think; you won't see the hand-luggage-onlys at the carousel, they are long gone.
Just because a hold allowance is included in your ticket does not compel you to use it.The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

After all, the former has been paid for within the overall package deal price.0 -

I can't think many savvy travellers would deliberately pack more stuff than they need just so they could check a bag into the hold and incur significant delay on both departure and arrival just because it was included in the overall price.
Plenty of things can be included in the overall price that people - out of choice - do not use. Are you making the mistake of thinking that everyone is like you?The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
OP it might be worth trying Tui Facebook group to ask a question, as I've found that is a useful way of getting a query sorted quickly.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

Are you making the mistake of thinking that everyone is like you?
Are you suggesting that regular travellers who have a hold luggage allowance included in their holiday price don't actually use it and take cabin bags only ?
That just doesn't happen in my experience.0 -

I'm not suggesting it - I'm stating it as a fact. I've done it myself and I've seen / met others who do it too.The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
The majority of people on a package use the hold luggage for several reasons.
The hand luggage on the charters are normally 5 or 6kg which is definitely not enough to use for a week or more holiday.
If your on a package you usually use the transfer coach so you have to wait for that to leave so you might as well wait for your suitcases first.
Families on their yearly holiday want to take their best outfits for dressing up at nights, the kids want to take their whole wardrobes and what about toiletries, sun tan lotion etc. If you're a family of 4 or 5 you don't want tot be messing about with 100ml bottles and plastic bags at security.
Its a completely different matter if your on the scheduled flights with 10kg of hand luggage and your going for a few days, adults only, business trip, no coach transfer. Although come November Ryanair are completely changing the rules on hand luggage so then what will those customers who usually take their cabin hand luggage do when it has to go in the hold unless you pay.0 -
It was nice of the OP to come back and tell us what happened before she went away.0
