If you decide to go self-managed, how loose can you be with your SOA that you send to creditors? I.e. are they actually going to ask for proof of accuracy?

Loose as you like, debt management is unregulated, you can do whatever you want, no one will ask for proof of anything, and anyway, your in charge, so if they do ask, you just say no, or ignore the request.

If creditors don`t like it, they sell the debt on, and you deal with the new owner, there is no love lost in debt management, don`t think of it as what they might want, its what you want that counts here.

I’m so angry right now - had my first call from a loan company about why I cancelled my direct debit. I explained I’m speaking with StepChange about a DMP - the guy proceeded to interrogate me as to why I’ve made the debt decisions I have, you know because he’s just ‘like to know’, and mansplained what would happen, all super negative, but you know it’s my choice, just piling on the shame.

He was so patronising, unsupportive and had clearly never experienced any kind of life problems that could get you into money issues. No ‘mate’ it was not my choice. The language chosen and lack of compassion was disgraceful.

I’m up for this fight but there are so many vulnerable people out there who need support not criticism and shaming. These people need to look at themselves and choose their language and tone more carefully.

That sounds awful. You need to complain to the company. This is the sort of thing that could tip someone over the edge.

Going into my second month of DMP and i've had a letter from Wescot.  They were dealing with my Barclaycard debts but the letter today said they were no longer in charge and all DMP payments would be diverted to Barclaycard.  Anyone else had this sort of thing?  I thought once it went to Wescot, it would be them dealing with it?

Best advice is stay off the phone, do everything in writing or by email.

That way you do not get on the wrong side of someone else's bad day.

I am trained in debt management, but my approach is to put the debtor first, not the creditor.

I also have lots of experience dealing with collectors, I like to see people standing up for themselves, with a, "holding there heads high, shouting, yes, I'm in debt, but don`t think you can walk all over me", kind of attitude.

No one gets into these situations willingly, but it kind of irritates me when I see people asking if the creditors will mind this, or should I worry if they do that, you should always take a pro-active stance when dealing with debt, folk worry over it so much, and really, they shouldn`t, I try to take away some of the myths and fear surrounding the subject.

You should always stand up for yourself in these situations.

    Thanks for your kind comments.
