    Afternoon all.
I am self managed and have realised one of my creditors (Very) have marked my account as special arrangement. Am I correct in thinking ideally I want this marked as defaulted ( I mean ideally we want it paid but this is the situation it is!) If so how should I go about that?

Hi, I’ve been in my DMP since June 2020 now MBN4 who won’t default me have started adding interest back on to my account, what can I do about this? Thanks

Same answer to you both, you stop paying them, it’s the only way, no end of complaints will get the results you want.

As stated many times before, you don’t pay until the debt has been defaulted, sold, and bought by a new owner.

That way all interest is stopped, the balance is frozen, and then all your money goes to pay down the debt.
can I do this even though I am already in the DMP?
    Thanks

To be honest its harder to stop paying the one creditor if you are in a managed DMP by SC or similar, their mode of operating is to treat all creditors equally and so are unlikely to agree to stopping a payment simply because the creditor in question hasn't defaulted the account.  If you are self-managing, that's easier because you can just stop paying them until they play ball.

So, if you are in a managed plan then the best thing to do is hassle the creditor or DCA until they take note, write formal complaints and keep at them - escalating your complaint as high as it can go (if they won't listen)
  • My very debt (which is special arrangement) is already with NCO debt collectors to whom I pay a nominal amount as per my self managed DMP. How would I go about getting Very to default it? Do I need to ring them  :#

  • Hi all,

I have been on a DMP for 2 years and have recently completed a budget review. This has triggered a letter from one of my creditors that they are now closing the account and registering a default. I feel a bit stupid as I didn't realise that they had not registered a default before now.

I'm anxious to avoid this, I called them and they said the account is not showing as in arrears on their system and that it was just the letter from StepChange with my budget that has triggered this process. I am really confused by this but am eager to avoid a new default being registered as it will set me back a further 2 years. The creditor said I need to speak to StepChange about it.

I've tried calling StepChange but they are closed from 2pm on a Saturday. My anxiety is through the roof about this, has anybody any advice? I have enough savings to clear this debt (as well as all my other debt except for one - EveryDay Loans), and am wondering if it's best to just pay this creditor completely now to avoid any hassle? Or should I wait to speak to StepChange?

Any advice from folks is much appreciated. Like I said I feel a bit stupid that this default was not previously registered, I thought I was really on top of all of this the past couple of years and have even got the date my defaults drop off my file memorised.

    Thanks everyone,

  • I'm finally facing up to my debts. I should have done this sooner but I always thought I could take control....

I'm currently setting up a DMP with SC and it feels like I'm moving in the right direction. In 5 years I should have paid off what I owe (just over £20,000 on CCs and loans).

However, I have one query I'd like to run past the people in this group (I've been on the sidelines reading, trying to drum up the courage to ask). We have a car on lease... We've never missed a single payment and it's due to come to an end in a year's time. Ideally, we'd like to buy the car then as it suits our needs, is reliable and economic... How would we stand with the DMP? The monthly lease figures are accounted for in our DMP along with all running costs etc etc.

I hope someone may be able to advise me....
  • Hi all just looking for a bit of advise.
I am weighing up my options on my debts.
one of my creditors loan of 8k will not default me. Its been 16 months since i made  payment
i av missed a total of 6 payments and the rest token payments. I spoke to them to ask may i get defaulted but they said no basically.
So set up £1 token payments for a further 12month
Is there anything i could possible do to get defaulted
    cheers
  • Also  if i stop the token payment i am really worried that i will get court papers

If I want to go self managed for my DMP rather than continue through Stepchange, how would I initiate this?
