Given the OP is also a "senior" then perhaps that's an inappropriate comment?0 -

Everything is on the secondary socket/always has been (and has no option but to be - as that's the one in my study) - so that's computer/router/etc.
It was all being problematic even back when it was all off main socket during the time I had to shift the house around whilst it was being gutted. Main socket is literally not possible for any more than short-term (ie whilst the house was being gutted) - as it's in hallway.
It's not the sockets for sure.0 -

Best - AAISP. This is even a major thing they advertise. However they are not cheap.
Magically at that point an OR crew got booked out to me by BTW that replaced the faulty piece of overhead cable that no-one else could get to.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

Hmmmmmm:think: - I shall certainly bear that point in mind as a possible fallback position if worst comes to worst.
EDIT; I've sent them a query re their services - as I'm getting distinct suspicions it may need someone "bigger/louder" than me to deal with this issue.
EDIT; Had automated response back from them. Not raising my hopes just yet - as I wouldnt be surprised if they don't do remoter areas like this. I'm getting more certain that the problem lies with the fact that an engineer here told me way back that there is no spare capacity on the "box" down the road and they are basically muddling through swopping people around as extra people ask for new phonelines - rather than putting in that spare capacity. This is a remote area/people not demanding "usual" (ie latest) standards of service and I think this is probably the root of the problem.
I have a distinct feeling "my" set of wires gets whipped off me at intervals and given to someone complaining louder than me. So I have to complain yet again and then someone else complains and it all "goes round and round".0 -
One work around is virgin cable, not adsl from them, but it is not available in every area.
Another solution to try is to get a second line put in. This is what I did. There was also a free installation offer on the second line by BT. Separately about 20 months ago Sky offered free line installation. No idea if any of these are still free.
A few months after install when everything was working well, I cancelled the contract on the first line of the initial line swap. Yes, it does cost some money, but correct timing counts a lot to lessen the cost.
Even tough you may get a new perfect line, if the main switch unit in the green external box, or exchange is over subscribed, you then are still no better off.
Some companies like Plusnet just drag their heels. Took 4 attempts to try to get it right, and they still could not fix it, so went to sky whos service is fault free.
Ping can be a big help and do recommend https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/multiple_ping_tool.html which is pinginfoview. Also especially if using a vpn client on a pc, on an android phone install Ping & Net which also continually pins and in that way you can check if it the vpn vs non vpn via the mobile0 -
Do you have fon with them? I think that was what it was called. I seem to remember if you allowed it via your modem, you could then use any other fon signal that was strong enough with your own computer. It might be a way to have a connection when yours goes down but obviously its not an alternative, just a stop gap and relies on other BT users near enough for your wifi to access it.0
