Difficult to set up DD for credit card

Well not really difficult but seems to take an inordinate amount of time.
I applied for the HSBC credit card, purely for the £25 on spending £300. Card arrived within 2 days, activated and £300 spent. Now to pay. I always prefer DD just in case I forget, get run over by bus etc. I apparently needed to discuss this with about 5 different people being on hold, off hold etc before being finally told that I can only do it by post...they send the form , I fill my bank details in then post it back. All this because i bank with someone else i.e Barclays.
I have had many credit cards including M&S, Virgin, Tesco and have always set up the DD online, are HSBC alone in their old fashioned ways? i have sort of set up their online banking although it failed when a text with a number wasn't received. I have decided to give up and just pay the paper statement when it arrives then cancel the card.
sorry just needed a moan after wasting an hour or so on the phone this morning.

[STRIKE]You should have used the eform to set up the DD online

Just read the form again. It seems this cannot be used to set up a DD from an external bank. That can only be done by post. I agree, this a prehistoric method of doing things. I wonder if you can set up a DD with an external bank via telephone?I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

Apparently not as I discovered over the course of many phone calls this morning.0 -
A relative of mine had the same problem. A tad inconvenient at best.
