No SMS sound on Moto G6 play..help!

Hi guys/gals. Having a spring clean of the above phone, which overall I'm very pleased win.

Successfully changed ringtone for individual groups, I.e friends/gf/other calls.

However.....SMS just vibrates twice....can't get ANY notification sound???!! Tried all You Tube videos, forums, answers on Google, etc, force closed it...…no joy. Any new apps installed today have been uninstalled (come to think about it had no notification noise for a few DSS). Don't really want to do a full factory reset....any ideas kind people???:beer:

Have you Android Messaging on there? It should be the default

If so go into settings in the App allow notifications ringtone etc

or change ringtones back to default

Hi! No messenger at all. If I go back to default under ringtones surely the personalised tones for g/f, friends etc will be lost?

Colin, muddled through to sound settings under notification & 'importance medium' (low was no sound)....tried external play store/Google apps specifically for SMS tones, to no avail!!!!! URGHHHHH!

Possibly you have Do Not Disturb set to Priority and Messages are not being treated as a Priority item. Have a look under Settings, Sound, Do Not Disturb preferences, Priority-only settings and check that the settings there under Messages say From Anyone and not None.

I take it you are using the standard Moto installed SMS app for messaging?

I also assume that you've checked that Default Notification Sound in Sound settings has a sound chosen and not None?

Have you tried a hard reset and going into recovery mode but not doing Factory Reset/Data Wipe but just doing Reboot System (it shouldn't affect your data if you just choose Reboot from recovery screen). This might do something to clear the issue.

Unless I'm misreading your post you say the "Importance" is set to "Medium" which is "No sound"?

"High" is "Make sound" & "Urgent" is "Make sound and pop up on screen".

Edit: this is through the message app itself.

Sorry....meant high!!!!! Sherman......is it 'recovery' that I scroll down with volume buttons on hard reset? Pub calls.....be back o mid morning tomorrow!

Yes. Scroll down to recovery and press power to select. It'll reboot and the Android robot appears. Press Volume Up and Power until another menu appears. Then just select top option of Reboot System Now (just don't select Data Wipe/Factory Reset...well not this time. Maybe if nothing else works you might have to :eek:). This may not do anything at all but wont do any harm either.
