  • Right, time for a proper update and a review of April.

    Good things

    Sold a few bits
    Nearly finished my tapestry

    Bad things

    Boiler/heating fiasco
    Majorly overspent
EF depleted, other pots looking shaky
    Major argument with DH
    Still no permanent job :(

Not a good month this month, on the upside it is payday for DH on Friday :j

So CC wise, they will get just over the minimum this month and the next due to how bad April has been and that at the end of May I need to buy DS's birthday presents.

    May's Goals

    Personal

    Finish my tapestry
More training walks as the Trek is looming now :D
    Get more sleep

    Financial

Lunches to work - aiming for 21 days
Groceries - need to stop the many top up shops
Keep logging in with money hub app
    Keep applying for jobs
    Restart with the surveys

    Household

Declutter more stuff - dump, charity shop, sell
    General housework stuff

My main object for May, is to concentrate on the financial side of things, I'm hoping that once I get to grips with that side of things, May will be a bit smoother. Especially if I can secure a permanent job elsewhere.
  • That's disappointing about the private chat :(. You obviously need to keep learning elswhere for a better job. Their loss!

Yup, I was a bit deflated after that chat. My agency bloke said that the whole point had either been totally missed or he'd just glossed over the whole thing.
  • I find with top up shops that the [Strike]locusts[/Strike] children will eat their way through as much as you buy, the more you buy the more they eat. So I started a policy of announcing that the food shop was expected to last seven days, and if they ate it all in two days then that was their problem because I would only be topping up with bread, milk and fruit :D. We definitely spent less and Tuesday is always referred to in our house as No Food Tuesday :rotfl:.

Good luck with your financial goals. I think that DH and I are spending too much and so I want to start keeping a spending diary to keep track of it all. I want to save an equivalent amount in savings of all the things I stop myself from buying.

  • Morning,

I have been doing some thinking (dangerous for me!!) I have been having a look at money transfers to clear the OD, something that ES mentioned looking at a while ago.

There are three potential deals that will work for us -

    MBNA - 0% for 14 months but 5% fee
    Barclaycard - 0% until 1/10/20 but 2.4% fee
    Lloyds - 0% for 12 months but 3.9% fee

The OD is with Lloyds who we bank with and have one CC with, so I ideally want to avoid that one. The BC one does seem to have the better deal out of the three though?

My thinking is that all the debt will be in one place then and I can keep better tabs of it, rather than worrying that Lloyds will recall the OD.

How annoying about the job :(

I agree that Barclaycard looks best. I think getting rid of the OD is a great idea. I feel so much better without one.

    Thanks, I wasn't impressed.

I think I need to work on DH to get this moving, pub visit tonight (DH has told me he's having a majorly bad day) so we can talk about it then.

I'm sure in my thinking and please someone correct me if I am wrong but the 'debt' level itself won't change, it's just being moved?
  • Happy Friday,

Spoke to DH last night and he doesn't want to do the money transfer to clear the OD, so back to plodding along to clear it. Will try again once it's down to £1K

Received an invoice from BG for the call outs, I have written an email to their complaints department disputing two of them listed, as they were their engineers fault, plus I requested compensation for loss of earnings and having no hot water for the kids. So we will see, I'm not too bothered about any compensation TBH but threw it in there as I was angry

Finally paid the G&E bill, they sent it two weeks before pay day !!!!!!. Did a Quidco check and have now switched suppliers and gained £30 cashback, once that clears, I will pay that in to the pots account.

Payday today too, so all CC's have been paid.

Hoping that May is kinder to us than April, I'm itching for it to start.
  • Afternoon,

For a four day week last week, it was a long one. I'm hoping that as this one is a five day week, it won't drag!

Sold some of DS's books on Saturday, so he was well pleased to have made some money :)

I did a training walk on Sunday, 13km in total but I wasn't happy about it. I think it is because I didn't have a plan. It took me until I was 7km in to start to enjoy it. This Sundays one will be better.

Brought my lunch with me today.

Updated the pots accounts and if things go right, I can pay £400 off the OD in June and an extra £300 off the MBNA too :T

I have updated my signature to show the CC payments this month and updated my totals too.

I still need to do a meal plan for the next month and sew on DD's badges :o
  • Well done on doing the training walk.

It's a shame you still have the overdraft but onwards and downwards :).
