I think you lot have been played.

Bacon Sandwich will be throwing his/her head back in laughter at the success of this perfectly executed trolling.

    It's the only plausible explanation.

  • OK looks like we might have got the wrong end of the stick then and have been a bit niaive. its a stressfull time and its not easy to be rational all the time. Thanks for putting me right. Only thing is i'd already replied to the EA and said that we were very happy with the company we'd chose to do the survey and wouldn't be needing any favours from vendors. no reply from them and no confirmation from damp proofing company for an appointment or anything. Will try calling tomorrow. Hopefully I havent upset them too much.

I would personally ring the estate agents and say that now you've had time to sleep on the matter you would like to take the owners up on their offer to ensure that you are all treated fairly should there be any damp proofing issues.
  • Oh dear, oh dear!

Are you saying that you posted your question and then went ahead and did what you wanted to do anyway without reading any of the replies?

If so, I think you may have now burnt your bridges with the sellers and they will be the ones to tell you to 'shove it'.

i doubt they will tell him to shove it, they will more than likely be glad there's no cowboys going round wanting to charge £1000s for damp treatment that isnt needed.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

So what's the OP going to do now then. The sellers have made it clear they will not allow the OP's 'salesman' into their house and the OP has already said that he's not interested in the seller's generous offer as he doesn't need any 'favours' from them.

I know that house buying/selling is stressful but FTBs are notorious for being 'difficult/entitled' and, as they have viewed the property 4 times already, I imagine the sellers are probably getting a bit sick of it. They're probably thinking that if he's like this now, what might he do the day before exchange

If the vendors have any sense, they will commission their own independent inspection report and have it ready to contradict any salesman's opinion the OP tries to use to get a price reduction.

I have to say I'm a little surprised that now you're had time to reflect, and read the responses here, that you have not chosen to take up the rather sensible proposal put forward by the vendor of the property you wish to buy.
  • Personally I think that trying to spite people is a very sad outlook on life. Life is just too short.

Especially over something as petty as this. Especially when it is people like the vendors who you have never met before and will never meet again when the sale is complete. Especially when we are talking about a purchase as important as a property.

You are not going to find yourself in a few years time thinking "gosh, you know that seller? I'm so glad I told them to shove it over that damp & timber survey, hehehe I really got them".

Big picture, long term thinking is required when you are thinking of buying a property.
