E.ON Moving from economy 7 meter to single rate

you can play around inputting various combinations of eco 7 low/night best fixed tariffs v best fixed single rate, using ukpower,co,uk which i have found the clearest and easiest to use comp site
.i often use widely different khw usages to compare and get an idea of who is currently offering the lowest rates
.for me today it is separate gas/electric for a years fix using enstroga for electric and cardiff energy for gas. You also have to take into account various cashback offers from mse, topcashback/quidco.
Just use ukpower.co.uk/uswitch to compare then do a switch which includes cashback
no need to wait to exchange the meter to do that.it will take a few months anyway and you need to get onto the best years fix now before the rush to raise prices. Bulb have just increased 11% from november.
What counts is the total years cost for each fuel.
I have just had a look at the best fixed rates in my area using 2000 kwhs day and 700 kwh night, ( try various combinations ) and yorkshire energy come top with rates of 12.09 p day and 11.75 p night, and 21 p a day standing charge, inclusive of vat.
Those rates , in my area, will beat the best single rate meter on a fixed year tariff
. If i was you i would initiate a years fix with them asap if you can leave eon without the £30 exit feethanks houbara -
my e7 night rate comes on at 10.30 - until 7am - does this not need altering by e.on or does it get changed automatic by the new provider - sorry this is a mind field for me.. Not had gch for over 4 years
wow and your right - green badger ( yorkshire energy ) is showing good rates0 -
hi, those night rate hours worry me, that is more than 7 hrs, are you sure its not an eco 10 meter eon do supply eco 10 , but not many other suppliers do. Not much choice with eco 10 at all
the usual eco 7 times, that is if the timer switch is operating correctly, is 12.30 to 7.30 gmt dropping an hour in bst to 1.30 to 8.30 am
.a lot of timer switch controllers are out of synch and the timings are all over the place with the night rate active at any time within the 24 hrs.
The radio teleswitch ones are the only ones very accurate.smart eco 7 is in use with secure liberty meters and they should always be spot on
different areas have different eco 7 hours tho but my area is typical
sorry yes it does drop from 12pm think it comes back on at 2.30 and then stays on until 7.30 - the engineer started it at 10.30 so i could do late night washing or showering, but never take advantage of this..0 -
wow and your right - green badger ( yorkshire energy ) is showing good rates
.
I did find one other supplier slightly cheaper for Eco 7 but as a Yorkshireman I would stay loyal to them lol0 -
Hi - Please help me because E.on are a waste of space at present. ive tried all week for them to make contact with me, no answer on the phone, no anser from my emails etc...
I have been with them on an economy 7 meter. I have at present had storage heaters removed and in the process of CH being fitted..having the pipe work prepared and radiators fitted in readiness for the boiler to be fitted which should be in a bout 4 weeks.
I want to finish the economy 7 rate and go onto a single rate. Do I need the meter changed ?? I'm out all day and use nothing at night apart from the usual fridge and tv standby..
I've spoken with EDF today who have advised they can switch me over but it will be on an economy tariff and they will add the two together ?? this just sounds complicated.
The gas meter is in but as i don't have gas usage at the moment, they are just billing me for the standard charge... E.on have also just adjusted my DD to 178.00 a month without asking, my smart meter is showing I'm using 1.25 a day. SH have not been on since April..
So do i move to another supplier and let them sort the meter out or do I need Eon to sort this part out first... Or do I wait completely until the GCH is up and running before doing anythingi don't know how to go about this transition... There has be someone who has gone through this ??
Hi Spot1034 - i don't want the economy 7 rate - E7 is special rate late at night and all night.. its pointless for GCH that will be only during day time and not during night.
plus the E7 night rate is 9.4p and day rate is 18,9p - some suppliers offer day rate at 14.5. i was using in full winter 6-8 pounds a day once the storage heaters were on . GCH is going to be cheaper and better efficient once it is up and running.
ive been told from 80-115 a month for a 3 bed, at present im paying 115.00 a month for storage heaters in 3 rooms with no heatng upstairs. its has to go..E.on want to charge me 64.00 to swap meters from a smart to a single credit meter
Hello cazacs16 and welcome to the Forums. Already some excellent advice on here - thanks all.
Firstly, I'm sorry you've struggled to contact us. Our current waiting times aren't good enough and we're working to put this right. This includes training more advisors and looking at different working methods. Additionally, we've had several system issues that have added to backlogs. Our IT services are looking at not only sorting immediate issues but also stopping them from happening again.
As others have said, with us, there's no need to change your Economy 7 meter to go on to one of our single rate tariffs. If you've registered with our website, you can do this online quickly. No need to contact us. The change will go through immediately. We add the day and night usage together and charge it all at the one rate.
Not all suppliers do this and if you want us to change the meter, as we've advised, there's a charge of £64.76 (including VAT) for this work.
Our Economy 7 tariffs have a higher day rate than single rate versions and then a lower night rate. We understand a customer's circumstances change and so offer the choice of moving from single to two-rate tariffs and vice versa with as little disruption as possible.
Sorry again for the problems you've had contacting us cazacs16.

E.ON will combine the day and night reads and bill against a single rate tariff. I know because this is the arrangement I have with them right now.
They will also let you adjust your own direct debit if you have an online account. I believe its 5% if there are no recent meter readings, and 20% if there are. They will set a recommended DD based on expected consumption and aim to hit £0 balance by your review date, but if your usage has changed (for example by switching from electric to gas heating) giving readings every 2 weeks will help bring the predictions closer to reality.
If you've had trouble with E.ON's front line support (which I've always found hit or miss), the best solution is to hope Malc or Helena (their forum reps) see this thread, they can usually sort stuff out pretty quickly. I imagine they've gone home for the weekend now, so be sure to bump the thread on Monday. If you can edit the title, adding 'E.ON' to it will probably get their attention too.
Thanks for the heads up Raxiel and you're spot on. Both with how we can charge Economy 7 meters on a single rate tariff and with the way our Monthly Direct Debits work.
As I posted above, the waiting times through all our channels aren't good enough at the moment and we're working to put this right.
Thanks again for your input Raxiel.

What the OP has described is not E7. E7 is a straight 7 hour period, usually between midnight and 7, or 1am and 8am. Accurate if teleswitched, but often hours out if clockwork-controlled. But either way, there is no break in the middle.
So I'm now dubious that they can switch to single rate without new metering.
Regardless, £65 will soon be recovered in savings with a typical usage pattern with gas CH and DHW anyway.
OP, can you post the precise name of your tariff please? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

If they were on any multi rate tariff other than E7 they could have a single rate without a change of metering due to the Energy Market Investigation (Restricted Meters) Order 2016 rules.0 -

I recently requested E.ON to change my Economy 7 meter to a single rate one. The meter was changed last week.
At no point was I told I would be charged for this, and as far as I know I haven't been charged.
If it turns out I do get charged £64.76, I will not be happy! :mad:0 -

Did they swap an old E7 meter for a single rate smart meter? There's no (direct) charge if the rate change is done at the same time as a smart installation.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). It depends on the circumstances SpanishBlue. The fee I mentioned applies to non-essential meter exchanges.
Essential changes include replacing faulty meters or where the meter has reached the end of its guaranteed lifespan. There are no charges for this work and you can ask to go from Economy 7 to single rate. Similarly, as Raxiel says, there are no fees for fitting smart meters and you can also change from two to one rate. The same applies when going from a prepayment to a credit meter too.
Did any of the above apply to your meter exchange SpanishBlue? If not, what were the circumstances?
