E.ON Moving from economy 7 meter to single rate

Ask your supplier if you can have a new, single rate meter.
They may well say "yes, you can have one but it will be a smart meter" but if this is the cheapest option then it could be worthwhile to save extended phone calls, aggro and increased bills.
Also, given your usage, you need to question why your DD has been set so high - that usage you should only be paying about £25 a month and you should get change out of that - but realistically a monthly DD of about £60 would allow a safety buffer to build up for the cooler months ahead.
Also, I would suggest editing your original post to include E.oN in the title as this should attract the attention of the E.oN reps that freequent the forum.
EDIT - have you tried badgering them on social media, such as their Facebook page and/or their Twitter feed?0 -
Hi - Thanks for taking the time to post . My day rate on E7 is 18.9, so if I'm using my GCH during the day it will be costing me 18.9, where as others with standard meter wil lbe paying 14.5? approx.
i leave the house early in a morning 6.15am, so don't spend a lot of time in the house AM.
I'm just not understanding how E7 staying on it when I wont be using it at night but more during the day can benefit me.. sorry if I'm coming across a bit stupid on this...0 -
After 7 days i've just got through to EON who have said they need to get someone from the smart meter section to ring me... I'm waiting....
i think i do need to change the meter to single rate so i can then undertake some comparrisons.0 -
E.on want to charge me 64.00 to swap meters from a smart to a single credit meter0
-
You (or E.On) don't need the meter changing to get single rate. As others have said E.On will simply add the day and night readings together and bill you at the normal single rate. Yes marginally more complicated than using one reading but as you have a smart meter already it is of little concern. When you have a history of single rate use you can change suppliers but you will either have to find one who will add reads or start off on their E7 and get them to change the meter.0

.I often use widely different khw usages to compare and get an idea of who is currently offering the lowest rates
.For me today it is separate gas/electric for a years fix using Enstroga for electric and Cardiff Energy for gas. You also have to take into account various cashback offers from MSE, Topcashback/Quidco.
Just use Ukpower.co.uk/Uswitch to compare then do a switch which includes cashback
No need to wait to exchange the meter to do that.It will take a few months anyway and you need to get onto the best years fix now before the rush to raise prices. Bulb have just increased 11% from November.
What counts is the total years cost for each fuel.
I have just had a look at the best fixed rates in my area using 2000 kwhs day and 700 kwh night, ( try various combinations ) and Yorkshire Energy come top with rates of 12.09 p day and 11.75 p night, and 21 p a day standing charge, inclusive of VAT.
Those rates , in my area, will beat the best single rate meter on a fixed year tariff
. If I was you I would initiate a years fix with them asap if you can leave Eon without the £30 exit fee0 -
If you want a choice from the whole of market, then gettting a single rate meter would be the right thing to do.
There are only a very small number of supppliers who may agree to apply one of their single rate tariffs to a cusstomer who has a dual rate meter (E7).
The supplier may have told you they will add the 2 readings together as a type of 'shorthand', but what happens in reality is that each registry will be charged at the same rate.
You mention you have a smart meter. I did not know anyone was yet fitting smart meters to those on E7.
There are also a very small number of suppliers that do this as their E7 tariff.
Hi Yes - E.on fitted the smart meter over 18 months ago... its worked okay and the reader is great to watch what your spending however it wont be useful when i fire up the GCH in a couple of weeks.. E.on are not the cheapest even for their single rates.. they want to charge me 64.00 to take the meter out to put a credit meter in for single rate... i think this could be my best option tbh... what do you think ?0 -
You can play around inputting various combinations of Eco 7 low/night best fixed tariffs V best fixed single rate, using Ukpower,co,uk which I have found the clearest and easiest to use comp site

My E7 night rate comes on at 10.30 - until 7am - does this not need altering by E.on or does it get changed automatic by the new provider - sorry this is a mind field for me.. Not had GCH for over 4 years0 -

Things have changed a lot and most suppliers offer Eco 7 rates..Eons are well down the list though.
Just consult the comp sites and find the best deal .
I don`t like that £64 charge for exchanging the meter. EDF did my mothers for free but that was years ago and many people have told me on my meter reading rounds that BG did it for free.
If you switch to a smaller supplier they will be most likely fitting a smart eco 7 meter such as the Secure Liberty 100..This can then be remotely switched to single rate or Eco 7 and between credit /prepayment meter mode.
Bit cheeky of Eon because they now use the same Liberty Secure 100 meter and should be upgrading the meter anyway to a smart meter for free0 -
thanks Houbara -

Eon do supply Eco 10 , but not many other suppliers do. Not much choice with Eco 10 at all
The usual Eco 7 times, that is if the timer switch is operating correctly, is 12.30 to 7.30 GMT dropping an hour in BST to 1.30 to 8.30 am
.A lot of timer switch controllers are out of synch and the timings are all over the place with the night rate active at any time within the 24 hrs.
The Radio Teleswitch ones are the only ones very accurate.Smart Eco 7 is in use with Secure Liberty meters and they should always be spot on
Different areas have different Eco 7 hours tho but my area is typical0
