  • OFGEM does not deal directly with consumer issues where there is a dispute between the consumer and the energy company. However, I have written to OFGEM in any case because I feel that there is a wider issue here of public interest. I have asked whether they would intervene in this instance.

However, if OFGEM will not deal with me directly, I am hoping that my MP may be able to raise the issue for me.

Here by moving the client from a fixed tariff with price guarantee onto a variable tariff (with gas prices increasing by 88% in my case) cannot be other than disadvantageous to the client.

I can no longer access the 30 May 2018 terms because they have been updated and the click through link references the new terms.

Morally wrong - yes. However, suppliers will no doubt have taken legal advice on changes to their contractual terms and conditions. Moving a customer from a fixed to a variable tariff which have the same rates, it could be argued, is not disadvantageous in financial terms on the day of the change. Longer term though is, I agree, a different story but again they will argue that they have given customers the right to exit their contract without penalty. Sadly, I doubt that Ofgem has the ability to come up with a quick fix as it is required to consult widely on all Licence changes.

"We can change the terms of the Agreement and increase any of the Charges, (unless we have expressly agreed otherwise) at any time. If we increase any of the Charges or if any other change disadvantages you, we will give you at least 30 days’ written notice in advance of that change taking effect."

This looks straightforward to me. They have reserved the right to change their charges unless they have expressly agreed otherwise. But surely if you have a date that a tariff is fixed to then they have expressly agreed to that fix and can't change it?

They're saying the email is a mistake so in effect they never agreed.

From what I've read so far they really don't give a monkey's about their customers and are happy to lie and cheat - I don't want anything to do with such a company.

Bulb only have one tariff, the variable one. But they also have excellent reviews and so far appear to have more ethics than EE!

Having read the posts above I'm now worried about being shafted by EE during the move, don't want to cancel my DD but will if they start being funny! Finally got access to my online account and have taken screengrabs...just to be safe!

We shouldn't have to do this :(

Bulb have just nose dived down the charts.
  • I’m a new customer of Yorkshire Energy and my switchover was just a few days ago;....Yorkshire Energy have just released a new tariff called ‘Green Badger’.
When you obtain a quote the tariff info says this::

Tariff Green Badger - Fixed Until 31st October 2019
    Type of tariff Variable

I do hope it’s just an admin error,... god forbid they've contracted the Economy Energy malaise!

It's possible variable in this case means your monthly payments? I'm on a fixed tariff i.e. the price per unit is fixed, but I give meter readings on the 1st of each month and my monthly direct debit is therefore variable (from £3 in August to maybe £90 in January). I much prefer this than to pay a fixed amount per month and end up in credit.
  • errr why is it price again?

For anyone remotely interested, Yorkshire energy say it was an admin error and it’s in the process of being corrected.
  • Been on holiday, got email while away made me smile.OK back now more serious attitude. I took the economy energy offer via MSE cheap energy club on the 16th May. Looking at the forum I have decided the safest bet is to switch now to another supplier. So i went to cheap energy club site and found it says I have 1 switch in progress! So it looks like economy energy didn't inform cheap energy club of the completed switch so I assume I didn't get the £25.00 bonus either. I need to know if its OK for me to switch to another supplier without further penalty

I think Economy Energy has just removed its Facebook page. Can anyone else check, please?

They had a lot to hide.
