  • I received a very prompt and pleasing response from Which? who are looking into to this. Still nothing from Economy Energy so the counter-attack widens.

Many thanks to MSE for posting this as a news item. Even MSE cannot get a clear statement from Economy Energy. The counterattack continues.

  • Economy Energy is hitting thousands of customers with an astonishing £300+/year rise – but many will be able to escape it by switching away, or in some cases an admin blunder means they'll beat the hike....

I successfully challenged the price rise, I have had confirmation from EE complaints department that my fixed tariff will be honoured until the stated expiry date.

However, you will need to provide the original "Welcome" email which states "This is your contract and it contains everything you need to know about ... Your tariff information ... Tariff type Fixed etc"

I hope you didn't delete your welcome email...

Edit: Logged in to my EE account and my tariff for Gas and Lec show Switch Saver (honoured)

  • My increase is from £1,380.54 to £2,045.69, an increase of £666.15 or 48.25%. I was offered a fixed price from the outset, so I am not sure that I buy the mistake argument. Still no response to my formal complaint to Economy presented in legal form with all evidence appended (sent by email and by Special Delivery fully tracked).

  • My account now shows under account details

    FIXED [Honoured]

    at last

Looking forward to a less stressed weekend of energy problems.

    Cheers Andy
  • I'm still on "Switch Saver". I assume you're looking under the "Account Details" section?

I can only presume that they're deluged by the huge number of complaints they've had about this and are struggling to cope..... "small number of customers" my bottom!!!

If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.
  • I have spoken to them again today following all the feedback. Gone is their shouty "you signed up to it and our contract allows us to change things" stance. They have agreed to honour the contract now. It goes to show the power of people sharing this kind of information. They will have learnt that you simply cannot make mistakes in headline contract confirmations and hid behind 'making a mistake' Cheers all!
