Girlfriend Unemployed

Hi there,
My girlfriend graduated from university in July and has struggled to find any work. I work 37.5 hours a week therefore she does not recieve any benefits due to living with me? Her last student loan payment was June. I've been paying the rent, bills and food for the both of us on my own since July. It is starting to take its toll. I'm told that if I chuck her out of the flat and make her homeless she would get alll the benefits going? Surely that isn't right. But I feel thats the only option. Are there any benefits she can get? She cant get contribution based JSA because she hasnt been in full time employment for the last 2 years.

As she is living with you as your gf, then your earnings should provide for her. If you are short of money then you should be claiming joint benefits, IB JSA, HB, CT, etc.0

The OP's girlfriend would not be able to claim Income based JSA because the partner is working 37.5 hours per week. As they are working more than 24 hours per week then the partner wouldn't be entitled to IB JSA. Other benefits will depend on circumstances, children if any and household income. With such little information no one can possibly help.
Popping details into a benefits calculator will give them some idea what they could possibly claim.

Where would she live if you did this? She wouldn't be re-housed because it's not a simple as that. Do you have children?0 -
I have used the benefits calculator and not entilted to anything. I kinda feel shes not trying as hard as what she should be as Im paying for everything.0

No she wouldnt but she would go to the council be given temporary accomodation until a council flat came up. No we dont have children0

The Homelessness etc. (Scotland) Act 2003 outlined the provision that by 2012 anyone finding themselves homeless through no fault of their own must be entitled to settled accommodation (a council or housing association tenancy or private rental).0

Not necessarily, there are a lot of street homeless whom are waiting years. Like literally years
Are you wanting to finish with her, as this is how it is coming across. Obviously the money thing being a final straw, but what is the point of her having a council flat? The opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
Its not like that in Scotland, councils have a legal obligation to house homeless in temporary accomodation until they find permanent accomodation.poppy12345 wrote: »Where would she live if you did this? She wouldn't be re-housed because it's not a simple as that. Do you have children?0 -

And do you think that’ll be the ritz?0 -
The point Im getting at is why should it be me supporting her. If I chucked her out she would get every benefit going. I pay into the system yet do not get support when its needed? Im not having a go at anyone Im just venting my frustration.0
