Advice: Managing and increasing limit
Comments
-
Income is about 30k to 45k on average its close to 40k. My work is basic + commission.
Dont really have any other debts. Holiday is costing me £600 a month and starts on the 25th of sptember. Not much savings either (family of 5 only i work, no real benefis to Mrs cause of my income) thus why i asked for overdraft and the CC incase of Emergency and additional spending when on holiday evn though its all inclusive.
Would it be wise to use my CC as i do with my debit card and just pay off the full balance every month? Will this increase my chances of an increase?
How often can you get an overdraft increase too? Im assuming for CC is about 6 months? Also is it wise to get 2 credit cards with halifax? And if so when should i request the 2nd?
I only requested 1000 thats why they probably only gave me 800. My credit score aint great but it aint bad either. I think im probably just below average. I have been declined for a loan in the past though.0 -
When you check your credit report don't look at the score, look at the data.
Does it show you on the ER? Does it show the correct address(s) and dates you moved? Do you have any late payments on anything that is reporting (mobile phone bill/utilities/catalogues etc) Have you ever had a CCJs/unsettled accounts? Are you financially linked to anyone and if so do they have any CCJs/unsettled accounts?
Check all 3 credit reports.
I would apply elsewhere for a different credit card - Halifax have reason to think you are a little risky at the moment to only give you a low limit. It will take a while for that to increase and it won't meet your expectations in 12 months. It's handy to have 2 credit cards anyway as a back up to each other.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards. If you can't be the best -
Just be better than you were yesterday.0 -
Use the card and pay in full every month. After a year you should be able to apply for an increase, but you probably won't get that much. You will be able to apply for another card and a year of regular use may help you to get a decent limit. Two cards will help, esp if one is mastercard and the other visa in case you are somewhere where one is accepted more than the other.0
