What I meant to say was it's a pity that MSE do not put what Banks each Credit Agency Cover - i.e neither Experian or Equifax obviously have credit details for our bank accounts at HSBC but do both cover accounts with Nationwide!
Yet this list shows that HSBC use both Experian and Equifax for their credit checks? How is the customer supposed to know that without phoning our bank and also the bank of the account we are trying to open?0 -

The system obviously hasn't worked for us.
Credit applications will always be scrutinised and checked.
You don't need to faff around with 0% credit card offers to build a credit history. Simply get a few cards and put every day spending on them, then pay the statements off in full every month.0 -

So in fact these Credit Agencies are not getting a very good picture of people's money at all. In our instance, all they have picked up on is a second current account opened over a year ago, purely to gain the 5% interest on the £2,500 each month and the 5% Regular Saver.
This is now just used for is paying 2/3 direct debits - so not much money in it at all!
Positive bank balances, savings accounts and transaction details are not reported to CRAs. Maybe one day.
I think you're fretting far too much, especially for someone who doesn't even need credit.
Lenders don't get information only from CRAs. They also use the information you supply during the application process and statistics.0 -

Thanks for your reply.
I am not fretting. What should have been a very simple process has now turned into my hubby's request being ignored completely by the bank. You may find that okay but for someone who has always followed the rules, it is very annoying to say the least.
Going by our experience that should mean that the reported 4 million newcomers to this country will all be unable to get bank accounts and credit here, after all hubby and I were born here, had mortgages (paid off) been on electoral roll for 30+ years, had bank accounts since we were 17/18 etc. Yet for some reason we are having difficulty getting this credit card.
We do have a credit card with the HSBC which we have had over 30 years and spend on each month, paying it off in full each month.
"They also use the information you supply during the application process and statistics."
My husband filled in the application form via the MSE Experian site. So we were assuming that this would automatically connect to his credit rating and the 100% guarantee of getting that card and offer. Otherwise what is the purpose of offering this option on the site?
"You don't need to faff around with 0% credit card offers to build a credit history. Simply get a few cards and put every day spending on them.."
So which cards do you suggest? This was the purpose of getting this Barclaycard one!
We do also have a Nationwide credit card which we have had for a year, spending on it most months and with a direct debit set up to pay well over the minimum payment each month. This was at 0% so why would anyone then get another card without 0%?0 -
He doesn’t have a credit rating. No one does.
To demonstrate you can handle credit responsibly you should use the card each month and then pay off the balance in full after receiving the statement0 -
!!!.
If you had read the post you would see that my husband and I have paid off our HSBC credit card in full, each month, for about the last 20 years!0 -
But an account being that old is likely not reported to the CRA’s0

Thanks for your reply.
Why would this not show on CRAs? We still use it every month and pay if off every month?
Incidentally still not heard a dicky bird from Barclaycard. So much for their:
"Your Decision
Thank you, we have received your application
There are just a few more things we need to check before we can give you a decision.
There is no need to apply again - we will be in touch within the next 5 working days with our decision or if we need any further information from you."0 -
Today is the 5th working day since your first post. Hopefully they will be in touch soon...I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0 -

Per my previous reply - the account was likely opened at a time when banks/lenders were not reporting to any CRA's. - this is why you don't see it on any of the CRA files.
You can ask them to start reporting it but they don't have to.
Regarding the Barclaycard - you can call them and quote the application reference to chase it up. They may reply within 5 days but the letter may take some time to get to you0
