Banks and logic should never be seen in the same sentence :-)
You seem to know the banking system well, can you explain the risks that they can foresee with my hubby wanting to transfer £1,500 over to one of their credit cards, given all the information I have relayed on here?0 -
If it were me I would hold an and wait for an official decision. They may or may not contact you during the week. If your credit history is squeaky clean then most likely the application will go through. It's just something in your application that the computer has said "no" to and now the application has to reviewed by a human instead of an algorithm!! lolI work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0 -

As mentioned, available credit may be an issue. He also has a relatively thin file.
There is also the profitability issue on such a small transfer.0 -
@Willing2Learn
Thanks for your help. Yes that is an option to wait and see.
In this day and age of on-line banking, when we can open a savings account in seconds etc. it is a little frustrating that we then have delays over such a small amount.0 -

Thanks for all your replies and thoughts.
"There is also the profitability issue on such a small transfer."
That I suspect is the bank's main concern. But as they are also offering 6 months no interest on purchases, there was also a chance of us spending much more with them.0 -
i got this card last week - had some expenses to purchase now for december, and didnt want to get a purchase card as still using Virgin card for the air miles.
applied and approved immediately with 3k limit, no issues. 2% fee is added but credited 28 days later
i currently have a loan for £12k, 3 other credit cards totalling around £15k.
Loan was taken out 2 months ago, 3x credit card accounts closed 3 months ago
so, i reckon, and like others have posted, either an error in the application, or credit file/history is too thin.
I have entered incorrect banking details before in previous applications, that came back as "need further information" - they call, confirmed correct details, and application approved0 -
Just thought I would post an update re my hubby's application for one of Barclay's credit cards to transfer a small debt.
5 days have passed and not a phone call or email from Barclays.
What a total waste of time they are and I am angry that they may have put this hard search on my husbands file and so make it suspicious if we approach another bank for another card.
As I said previously, we only took on this "debt" to give us some credit history and prove we could regularly pay money back.
Never, ever had any problems of this sort before these so called Credit Agencies became the big thing.
Is it worthwhile approaching another bank or will that lead to further complications and suspicions?
It would also be useful if someone could advise why none of his main bank, HSBC, transactions and accounts are shown on either Experian or Equifax (both showing ideal candidate scores for loans/credit cards!).
All his money goes through these accounts but if these agencies are not seeing this then they are picking their figures out of the sky!0 -
Most likely is that they don't report to them.
Ask them who they do report to, if at all.
Bank accounts also won't report transactions. Only whether you are in your overdraft.0 -

"Bank accounts also won't report transactions"
Sorry, I didn't actually mean day to day transactions on the account but all the loans, credit card (paid off each month), amount of money sent to savings accounts etc.
So in fact these Credit Agencies are not getting a very good picture of people's money at all. In our instance, all they have picked up on is a second current account opened over a year ago, purely to gain the 5% interest on the £2,500 each month and the 5% Regular Saver.
This is now just used for is paying 2/3 direct debits - so not much money in it at all!
We have never, in all the time we have had bank accounts, ever needed to use any overdraft, although they are on both our current accounts.
Perhaps it would be more useful if MSE and Martin Lewis added which Credit Agencies each of the banks/building societies use for their checks.
As both Experian and Equifax do not check out HSBC, this could also happen if we apply for another credit card elsewhere. Within a few weeks, at this rate, hubby could have 4/5 hard searches against him but, like Barclaycard, never hear back from them.0 -

Do you mean like this?

Problem is, it's hard to keep up to date.0
