:j It's nice to be working towards something where I can see an actual, immediate result. It really helps focus the mind."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -

I've just been reading this interesting article on textiles.
http://www.cityam.com/275597/material-consequences-choosing-sustainable-fashion- Textile production uses 4% of global freshwater abstraction
- It contributes nearly 10% of global carbon emissions
- It produces more carbon than aviation and maritime shipping
- Is responsible for an estimated 20% of global industrial water pollution
It's pretty shocking, and equally as scandalous as plastics, yet doesn't make the headlines anywhere near as much.
The biggest thing we can do is wear our clothes for longer, so buying clothing second hand in charity shops/online etc is not only :money: it's green tooAlso, all textiles should be recycled, even if it's not reusable (so even our holey socks and knickers!). Those that are not reusable are shredded and used for things like stuffing materials and industrial cleaning cloths etc. https://www.recyclenow.com/what-to-do-with/clothing-textiles-0
Apparently we should all be looking to wear 'modal' or 'lyocell', fabrics similar to viscose or rayon. I'm going to look more into this as I don't really have a clue about fabrics. I very rarely replace my clothing, only when it's completely worn out (I'm often quite shocked when my fb memories come up and I was still wearing the same clothes over 10 years ago  ), but as I continue to lose weight, I will need a new wardrobe. I mostly buy second hand anyway, but still want to look for the most ethical fabrics when I do."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Well done on the offer being accepted. And an interesting article on textiles. Its suprising how much effect different things have on carbon emissions. A few weeks ago i would have thought transport and industry were the main culprits but its most other things that me as an average person isnt aware of.Jan 18 Joint debts 35,213
