We've been out for the day today. Had a stomp up Burrow Mump, a drive through Cheddar Gorge and a visit to the coast. We grabbed lunch while out so not at all SW friendly, but one day won't hurt too much.

It's ridiculous isn't it :( I don't think Wessex Water are far behind south west water.

I've never had an issue with BT until now. Ironically, part of my complaint was that they are using the wrong name. They've acknowledged my complaint under the wrong name  Shows how much they are reading!

There are calculators you can use where you input the number of baths etc you use each week and it will tell you whether you can save by switching. I prefer a shower to a bath, but I wouldn't like to be without a bath.

We used to pay £35 when we were on a water meter before, but that was just the two of us in a smaller house, with no kids, us both out most of the time, and a lot less washing! We aren't too excessive with water, but we definitely use a lot more than then!

Yes I just tried the calculator. Based on what I put in, it says we could save about £9 a month. But I have no idea how accurate I was really with the "how many times do you flush your loo"? :rotfl: Or "How many hors do you use a hosepipe over a year"? They were hard to calculate I thought. It doesn't ask about normal water you would use for drinking...(and I do drink a lot), or for cooking, cleaning etc. I am always filling saucepans to cook veg, where as someone like my inlaws, who use only ready meals, would not use as much. I am worried that if we had a meter, I would stop doing certain things, just 'cause they used too much water. Although I think it says you can have it on a 2 year trial and then decide if you want it out. Might think some more about it.

Our water bills are fairly low too £42....but we have a lot of it and export it over the boarder! Lots of beaches to keep clean too. I would be devastated to have a meter as that would put paid to baths! We are quite liberal with the water but not wasteful!

Shame you couldn't get a reduction on your water rates :(

Cheddar Gorge is another place I have always wanted to go to, apparently I did when I was little but cannot remember. Sounds like you all had a lovely day out :)

It used to be if you changed to a meter you could go back within the first 12 months ? I'd check it out.

It's a great name :D It's a hill with a ruined church on top. You get lovely views over the levels. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burrow_Mump

That's my concern. We are not wasteful, but I don't want to start worrying about whether I should flush the loo!

I think it's crazy how they differ so much. I think ours covers Dorset as well, so two coasts here too.

Yes, you can switch back in the first two years. It looked so close that I don't think it's worth it at the moment, but maybe I'll give it a go in the future. I'm being a bit hypocritical as I think everyone should be on a meter and pay for what they use, but while the budget is still tight, I'll leave it as it is.

  • Jwil I am truly horrified by what you are paying for water:mad:, we are on a septic tank/ reedbed filtration system, so only pay £137 a year for our water bill, but if that goes wrong we have to pay for it to be emptied/fixed.
I also have to be careful what cleaning products are used have to only use non bio washing powder etc, no bleach. tend to use ecover stuff which is more expensive to buy so I suppose all that adds up.

Hope you and little ones are well and enjoying half term. xx

I haven't got much to report really. It was my birthday the other day and I was in a foul mood the whole day :( I had another appointment with the doc yesterday and she's increased my meds. I've lost perspective and don't know whether I'm being unrealistic and oversensitive about things or whether it's the mood talking, or whether I have a point!

A few more things sold this weekend :T I converted a few of my listings to buy it now last night and sold two of them :T :T That's £45 I wasn't expecting :D

DH tells me he plans to sort out the extension today, if he succeeds, that will be a real achievement as it's a mess. Even if he just makes it a bit better it will be an improvement, fingers crossed!

He took little jwil to the cinema yesterday to see the Lego Movie and he plans to take both out tomorrow so little jwil will be quite happy today having a quiet day where he can spread out his Lego and have charge of the TV, which means DH can get on as I'm working and Little miss is at nursery.

I've got a crazy busy week this week at work so I should be able to get some hours added. I'd better get on with it :D
