I forgot to mention yesterday, I had a call from the MH team cancelling my anxiety CBT course, as I'm 'not anxious enough' Well that's because they assessed me while I am on medication and it's working! What am I supposed to do, stay on it for the rest of my life? I can understand they don't have enough funding to support everyone and there are people out there much more in need than I am, but it's crazy
So if I want any help now I need to go and pay privately. I can't afford to do that so will just have to suck it up.
Unfortunately in the UK now we have a 3 tier mental health system - the most seriously ill who try to take their lives get a lot of help but only until they are no longer suicidal, the people who have mental health issues but not enough to want to take their own lives are not given any help or support except medication and then those who have the same but can afford to go privately.
My ex would not have been taken seriously about his mental health if he told them he was suicidal but once he overdosed and was taken to hospital they had no option but to section him because he said he would keep trying. They looked after him so well in there and once he was discharged he had some minor support but really the workers didnt care and once he returned to work contact got less and then the Support Worker he was allocated signed him off as they knocked at the door twice and he didnt answer - well yeah, duh, he was at work trying to improve his menatl health because sitting around at home was making him worse.
Too be fair ex used to be a Support Worker (not in mental health specifically and he knew more than the people trying to support him).
The system is so broken.
I think you are being very pragmatic about it jwil and I'm glad you are trying some self help, I know CCL still refers back to her self-help packs and course notes from when she did courses a few years ago every time she feels her mental health taking a bit of a dive.0 -

Little jwil the other day was getting anxious about sports day. I asked him which ones he was worried about and that was one of them. He spent some time yesterday bouncing around in a RM sack so hopefully he's a bit happier now!Eager_Elephant wrote: »Unfortunately in the UK now we have a 3 tier mental health system - the most seriously ill who try to take their lives get a lot of help but only until they are no longer suicidal, the people who have mental health issues but not enough to want to take their own lives are not given any help or support except medication and then those who have the same but can afford to go privately.

Thank you. It makes me so cross - not really on my behalf, as I know I am not as bad as many. The mental health support in this country is shocking. How much time (and money) is being spent by all sorts of organisations on managing situations rather than giving the NHS funding so proper treatment can be given. A&S police do a 'tweetathon' every now and again, saying what they are up to. In a 24hr period, they seem to spend most of their time dealing with people with MH issues. It is so wrong!
Someone I know turned up at A&E the other week as they were in MH crisis. They were left waiting all night before they were even seen.
I feel ok at the moment, so am happy to give the self help stuff a go. I want to be prepared while I am feeling ok because it will certainly be a lot more difficult if I am feeling bad again."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". I lost 1lb yesterday at SW, that's good enough as I had a day completely off plan, and a few too many snacks on other occasions. I'm finding the whole plan really easy and seem to have sorted my main meals ok, but I still need to sort my emotional eating and snacking.
I've been reading some other 'diet' books to try and boost my motivation and there are a few things I'm going to take from them to assist me. The blood sugar diet that INOD has been doing is absolutely fascinating, and I read another that I enjoyed called 'Beyond Chocolate'.
Beyond Chocolate is about mindful eating - I definitely need to do more of that, so I am trying to be more mindful and not just hoover food down while doing something else.
The BS diet - the results are amazing and INOD shows it works in real life too. I don't think I could do that, but there are aspects I will take away - trying to reduce sugar and carbs. I'm going to go back to full fat dairy and see if it helps too.
I don't have blood sugar issues at all, I'm very lucky about that considering my weight, but of course I don't want to develop them in the future.
The other thing I need to do, is reduce the amount I eat. I am gradually doing this, and one thing I have started doing the last few days is waiting to eat until I'm properly hungry. I've lost all connection with my body signals, as I just graze all the time. So I've waited until my stomach is rumbling before I eat. It seems to have made a big difference so I will see how it continues. Of course it's easier to do when it's hot and sunny outside!
I've also downloaded an audio book onto my phone. It's one I haven't read before, and have wanted to read for ages (Lethal White by Robert Galbraith) so I'm listening to that while I walk to encourage me. I'll always choose a book over a walk, so hopfully this will keep me going as it's the best of both worlds!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Well done on crossing a few thing off your mammoth list
.
Well done on losing a pound. I think mindful eating and not eating until you're actually hungry are very important ways to control your weight. I do both of those and I'm not overweight. Sometimes I think, I could eat that but I'm not actually hungry so what's the point? Often a drink will satisfy me just as well as eating when I'm not hungry.
