fair enough but just curious if there is an opinion about the operating system

the old TV is small, not functioning properly any more and has multiple screen damages (this is a very old thin screen so no i am not just changing for no reason)
40 to 43 inches , probably to a maximum of 350 for budget (probably try to find a bargain this public holiday weekend or through refurbished display units which come with warranty, for example hughes electricals provide one year)
    angle will be straight facing
the room will be bright yes (4 sides of the lounge and 1 is completely windowed), however not so much of glare as no light faces the TV directly or the viewer directly
i am mostly an online person so i think i will extend the aerial/satellite wires later

so LG's webos is fine, what about Panasonic's or Sony's?

The 2018 models are out now, we are at the end of the discount periods for 2017 TV.

This size does not attract the best quality sets but there will be enough to find something.

The best sets at this size are second hand plasma with a smart box for Internet/smart features.

I have not done enough research at that size as I was going up from 42" to upto 55" now that feels small"

Don't expect smart features to last as long as the TV.

I have a Panasonic I liked Samsung and LG OS more. Sony gets bad reviews for being slow(underpowered chip sets).

curious why you say Plasma for the size (personally yes i prefer Plasma because of its less damaging effects to vision), however why does the size relate to Plasma?

asking because the refurbished or display units with warranty from retailers are all LED (LCDs are rare and i haven't found a Plasma)

THey don't make plasma any more you have to go tothe second hand market.

If you find a good plasma the picture will be a lot better than the LED BUT they are not as bright as the LED these days.

LED are LCD TV just using LED to provide the light.

if you can't go up in size you won't go far wrong with using the Panasonic TX40EX700B as a benchmark to compare the other cheaper sets at this size.
This retails around £400 but very low stock about.

read up and decide if you want HDR support there are some FHD sets that support the wider color and HDR inputs.
