Which credit cards offer instant online spend upon approval?

I want to buy a computer online (for £1400), and wish to benefit from the legal protections of section 75 of the consumer credit act.

This is my only motivation for using a credit card, and will pay the balance off almost immediately, so I am not bothered about interest rates, time to pay etc

I just need something that I can use online immediately. I don't want to wait for the card to come through the post etc. I want to make an online application and have instant approval and the ability to instantly spend online. I have tried Paypal credit, but this is not supported for my purchase.

What companies allow instant decision and instant spend online?

That's not likely to be possible. You won't have the card number(s) until it arrives. A money transfer card and ask for a transfer during application is likely to be fastest, but could still take several days at best. If you live near Metro bank I understand they can print and issue cards on site.

Cant think of any. all accounts (i believe) need activating, and cant be activated without the card being present.
if you have the presence of mind to use a CC for S75 only, then surely can wait a few days for the card to arrive?

Even if you got the card number straightaway, which is unlikely, you wouldn't get the security number on the back and you'd need that before you could use the card online.

I can't wait as the computer deal ends today. It's a good deal as I have been monitoring prices for the last 6 months. Plus I am going away and need the computer for when I go away.

I think it's mad that in this day and age you have to wait for a physical card to arrive. 95% of all purchases I make are online, and the other 5% is cash in daily life, so a physical card is pretty irrelevant for me.

Is there no way round this? I only want somewhere that can give me 1 pence of credit. I could just borrow 1 pence off them and then I qualify for s75 protection
  • That's not how it works - sorry

In which case a bit of forward planning would have been useful ;)
  • Amazon credit card gave me the card no and the security code straight away but they had a limit of £500 you could spend before having the physical card however most cards only take about 3 working days to come though from application/approval so if you apply (and get approved) now you can have the card next week. It will depend on your history if you get a limit to cover the computer though.
Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada

Surely its part of fraud protection. If someone had your details they could simply apply for a credit card and 5 minutes later max it out in one foul swoop..... At least by waiting 3-5 days for a card to arrive at your home address and having to call up to activate it it means its another layer of protection against fraud

Could you ask to use a family members credit card?

I saw that, but I thought the instant spend only applied to purchases on Amazon? Not 3rd party sites.

Can't I even find a card that would just lend me 1 pence? I just need 1 pence on the card to qualify for Section 75

I think I've read before that using someone else's credit card breaks the Section 75 link but may have misinterpreted.
