It was this second one that really got me.

I highly recommend MrMoneyMoustache Blog and The Richest Man In Babylon book, as well as Automatic Millionaire book - though I may be preaching to the converted ha ha.

Today has been a good day, client meeting went well yesterday and has pretty much agreed to go ahead, so I have a long task of producing a proposal next week, but it should pay dividends.

Spent some time after work at the park with MiniEl catching up with friends and just enjoying the warmth, was lovely. Hubby has just arrived and all is well with the world :)

Tomorrow is money fiddling day yay :rotfl: I am very excited as I get to pay myself from client accounts and then YNAB at lunch. I will also go as far as checking pension and funds balances too, it is Friyay after all :) We have managed to not drink any of the bargainous wine we got, so tomorrow we def deserve one.

On Saturday I intend to stock up on bargains on the main shop, but thankfully pretty much none will be protein or mains. So should be a light touch, allowing for buying of bulk buy items. £74.24 left, so I need to spend £25 max if the last shop in Sep isn't to eat into Oct budget.

I think I will take pics of the dryer this weekend too and force the issue, popping it onto FB. Then it's a decision as to trying existing drying airer + dehumidifier with a sheet over 'em, or, buying the Lakeland dryer. I read here on MSE that the Lakeland one overall worked out less than a dryer, per load even though you may need to leave it on a day or 2 per load - any thoughts? A bonus would be heating the main room I work in too.

NSD today, expect I will need £1 for bread and that's all folks.

    have a fab evening!

    Hi everyone,
Sorry it's been a few days - more decorating madness all weekend, need a day off to recover!

    House updates
I feel as if after several years in this house we can finally start to enjoy it and do the nice stuff. All the changes we have made have pretty much come from cash, so I will be glad to just buy decorative things for a while.
We do have things like outside painting to do, flat roof, poss update bathroom, but for now I have enjoyed things like looking at art, new soft furnishings etc.

As we walk into our home, we have tile then laminate then in the kitchen tiles, all visible from when you walk into the front door. I want to redo all as one flooring, would you say this is OTT if we have already spent a fair bit on this place? Ie if we wanted to sell Spring 19, is that something buyers would expect. Similarly, front door - change from double glazed to a real door, critical, or would something like bathroom be better...

    Money movements
Need to catch up on YNAB but not much movement there this week. Last week I had lodger payment in so was very restrained and able to pop £633.50 in total to offset, which may have been overkill as we need other things for the house. I will see what this week is like invoicing wise, and pay for house bits from there if I can. This now likely means nothing more overpayments wise for a while now. I will be interested to see what difference this makes to the interest, maybe not much but we'll see.

Spent £75 on boiler service, she is 9 years old and performing admirably, I always worry this time of year an engineer will start sucking in air and saying she's starting to go but very happy with results.

NSD yesterday but won't be today as need bread and milk so £2 there.
Will likely crack by tomorrow as need to get £10 out from ATM and have hairdresser cost to allow for soon and lunch with a friend this week too.

Closed off my business acc on YNAB so should be more straight forward now each week, will just need to ensure enough real dosh is in there for bills as will no longer have categories linked to help me there.

Shopping - £28.05 left now until end of month, because we have done quite a lot of bulk purchases this month - wine, cheese, tea, biscuits - all the worthwhile stuff ha! I will likely need to top this up this week when I do YNAB shuffles.

    How is everyone doing?

  • Hi everyone,
Hope you are having a lovely weekend, I haven't updated in a while as work has been manic, but hope to update more this week.

We have been able to finish most of the decoration including our son's room, it makes such a difference. Of course the moment you improve one thing, everything else starts to look shabby, so we've spread out into other areas ha.

Spending has been relatively good, we have not gone overboard and have funds still in place for some extra items needed on decor, car repair and petrol. I expect an NSD for tomorrow, and some payments in from clients next couple days, so will get my YNAB fix still.

Priorities for this week are low spends all round, but will be buying a new rug, and returning some curtains that looked better in the pack than they do up... I expect I may need £10 petrol but apart from that, milk and bread top ups, nothing much else.

I need to tally up grocery spends this month, I know they have been higher but do feel we got some great deals - examples of things we do not need to buy for several months are:

    - Bin liners
    - Wine (maybe to last Oct & Nov if we have 1 per week only)
    - Peanut butter
    - Laundry liquid (we already had in stock from whenever L*dl have a deal)
    - Dishwashing tablets (same)

I see L*dl have a great offer coming up next weekend on wine, chorizo and coconut oil which I think we will stock up on too, using part of some payments I get next couple days, so I don't delve into Oct budget on YNAB.

Have started a little side unit restoration project, and it looks great so far. I have gone for a subtle grey, though it looks much whiter than the colour they had on the tin... with luck the second coat may make it look even better. If that goes well I may be brave and tackle a large dining room table, could really make a difference to how the dining room looks but I'll need to allow much more time for that project. I do find it very rewarding though and it's the main reason we prefer wood over mdf etc, you can improve it and if needed sand it back, and do something else a few years down the line.

    Have a wonderful Sunday folks!

  • Hi everyone,
That time of month when we're breathing in and trying to skate through to Friday.
£2 spent yesterday on milk and bread, NSD today though.
Still waiting on a couple of client payments which is frustrating but will likely happen tomorrow so I can YNAB tee hee ;)

All decorating now complete, and starting to think of other areas whilst the weather is not too cold yet. Main thing is to put in an internal door which we have never done, and MrEL says he can do, so leaving him to it... we got the deal of the century on it, reduced from £90 to £10 woop!!! :T:T:T Not much of a bargain if he ends up not being able to install it though ha.

This weekend sees a few deals I would like to stock up on in Leedl. Also made a complaint to them a few days ago, first one ever, as there was a piece of metal in our ride pud the other day :( let's see how they explain that one.

Lovely weather so we enjoyed the park after school run, so nice to feel some warmth still and the light is so golden right now.

Very pleased with a little unit I restored / updated this weekend, wish I knew how to post a pic, it looks so much more expensive now and fades into the wall in a really nice way.

Need to get some inspiration for artwork so bring the living room up to date - any ideas?

Also still umming and arring over heated airer, worried it'll be huge, but I do think it'd help with damp as we use the radiators :o

  • Oooo and virtual mortgage balance now 82,031.11, taking into account our offset. Cannot wait until it's sub £80k and I love the security of the cash being there if we need it. Interest was £120.84 last month so let's see what it is come early Oct.
