Don't think many diesels even the 2 litre Audis or BMWs can do 0-60 in about 6 seconds. I don't understand why people think all petrol engines are gutless - not all of them are

According to Parker's a BMW with an auto box top trumps your latest fantasy.

    Hi
I have a track edition Mazda RX8 and I have noticed that some road users always try to get ahead of me, or try and entice me into driving fast. Typical scenario is an Audi or BMW driver at the traffic lights who race ahead, or if we are on a two lane road they will drive up next to me for a few seconds and then accelerate off. The sad thing in all of this is that literally all these Audi/BMW drivers have bog standard diesel engines.

I normally drive safely and stick to the speed limit. Every now and then if the road is clear I do try and go 5 or 10 mph above the speed limit at round abouts or twists and turns but my car is designed for that sort of stuff.

Does anyone else who owns sport cars experience similar stuff?

Probably just think they've found another nob.

How much is the beemer though? It's all very well comparing apples and oranges.

Theres no doubt that the rx8 is good value for money for a performance car. But that is it, an unreliable performance car.

Bmws come in all shape and sizes. Your average 320d offers fantastic performance to efficiency ratios. A 0-60 of sub 8 secs and 55mpg Vs 0-60 of 6.6 secs and 20mpg.

175% more mpg for 20% less performance.

I thought it was a requirement of being a BMW driver that you had to overtake everybody and get away fIrst at lights.

I remember coming down the M6 with a mate in his Mini.
An AC Cobra came past us. (At about 150mph I reckon.)
Those ******** AC Cobra drivers were always looking for Minis to overtake!

I had a similar situation many years back when a guy shot past me in a AC Cobra and deliberately gave me a blast of exhaust as he did so , I was only in an old VW Golf. Imagine the smile on my face when I past his spun out car on the roundabout a few hundred feet further up the road :rotfl:

I was thinking as I typed that earlier that if the Cobra had come up behind that Mini on a bendy road, he wouldn't have been coming past. (Or at least not as flamboyantly!) That Mini had S reverse rims, and much harder suspension than standard. Scared me to death the first time I went in it with him. It did go round corners!
