Other road users seem to want get ahead of me?

Options
Hi
I have a track edition Mazda RX8 and I have noticed that some road users always try to get ahead of me, or try and entice me into driving fast. Typical scenario is an Audi or BMW driver at the traffic lights who race ahead, or if we are on a two lane road they will drive up next to me for a few seconds and then accelerate off. The sad thing in all of this is that literally all these Audi/BMW drivers have bog standard diesel engines.

I normally drive safely and stick to the speed limit. Every now and then if the road is clear I do try and go 5 or 10 mph above the speed limit at round abouts or twists and turns but my car is designed for that sort of stuff.

Does anyone else who owns sport cars experience similar stuff?

Yes on the odd occasion - I dont adjust my driving style though.

Ah yes, I drive around roundabouts and corners too, my car is designed to do that also, I use a steering wheel for that sort of maneuvers, but it is front wheel drive though ;)

But you used the bully your way through traffic in the mighty M car.

Has the RX8 got rear brakes? I seem to recall your Yaris didn’t.

Speeding is ok because your car "is designed for that sort of stuff".

I wonder how that would stand up as a defence in court.

I don't in my two seater. Maybe it's restricted to rotary engined vehicles. When I repair my RX7 FD3S (genuine UK model, not an import) perhaps I'll experience this phenomenon.

I wouldnt get to court as he only does 5-10 mph over sometimes.....would be dealt with by a fixed penalty.

People in dull cars like "beating" people in sporty looking cars. I love it when I occasionally overtake a supercar by going at 72mph on the motorway.

Or absent of attending one previously a speed awareness course. I wasn't suggesting it would go to court just wondering aloud how it would go down in the event the op chose to.

Why not, reject the ticket and where will it go?

problem is, a lot of the standard diesel engines will be faster 0-60 than the rx8. was one of the downsides of it, even though i loved mine, it wasnt that fast in a straight line, and to get the most of it you had to really work the engine. (and then get like 15mpg)
