Ombudsman has just responded that he made an error in his original communication to me, £300 is the full amount of the compensation but the referral bonus and missing interest must also be paid separately.

Spoke too soon, my offer has been withdrawn but I've been promised a new offer by the close of today.

Very odd. Hopefully it's either more money or the same...!

Ombudsman office advised that they did not initially take into account that during the initial phase of the IT meltdown TSB was my main bank account so the following offer has been made:

    1. £500 compensation
    2. £75 referral must be paid by TSB.
    3. Missing interest rates must be paid.
    4. TSB must update my postal address.

I am fully satisfied with the above and have accepted their solution.

Blimey, how things have changed. TBH I wasn't aware TSB was your main bank account either - in fact, didn't you say in post #117 that it wasn't? In any case, you've done well - I doubt that offer would have come direct from TSB.

At the time of the meltdown it was and then I had to change this after being frozen out of my money, so from July it was no longer my main account.

Very good news and thanks for keeping us informed of each twist and turn- quite odd especially the escalation in one day from £275 then £300 and ultimately £500. I wonder if Paul Pester's parting gift yesterday was to call FOS and instruct them to up all the fifty quid offers by a factor of ten - perhaps he has offered FOS his bonus and severance payment to distribute amongst the most worthy :p

Thanks again Cotta - interesting twist to the thread. Can we trust FOS to keep it up? Are the days of the fifty quids now past?

It does seem rather odd and I got much more compensation than I expected, perhaps Paul Peter's exit had something to do with it.

It's pretty doubtful. More likely is that they'd double checked and thought "hang on a second, this is a bit low".

The departure of Paul Pester is almost certainly going to be unconnected in any way.

Sorry I said that with tongue in cheek regarding Paul Pester, although the changes in compensation levels I can't explain.
