Just remember - 3 diamonds that add up to 0.33 will be cheaper than one 0.33 carat diamond.
I was told it's significantly cheaper to buy a 0.99 carat diamond than a 1.0 carat0 -
Well we bought ours from an antiques stall at a local indoor market. Cost £50, everybody commetns on how beautiful it is and I've not seen another like it anywhere. Guess I was lucky!
But if you're near Bristol, St Nicholas market on Corn Street is the place. They always have loads of unique ones so I'd highly recommend it.
Would post you a pic but I'm not that tech-savvy I'm afraid!Live better on less :beer:0 -
I have .. am going through this process and I thought I would share my/our approach. The wedding is on 12th April 2008.
a) We decided upon a budget for rings .. and in fact the whole wedding, (.Excel spreadsheet type job). Tried to fit the wedding to our funds rather than the funds to our wedding as much as possible, although we saved in some area's and went over in others.
b) We went looking .. purely to discover what sort of rings we liked, style, jewels etc etc. buying engagement rings is something I dont plan to do too often.
c) We found our local Jewelry shop to be very helpful, the high street shops seem too pressurized, I am not a youngster and I don't really like a young snappy sales person pushing hard.
d) We kept looking and watching every time we went into town, and after several months we found the ring we wanted in a high street shop in their sale, there was no compromise on quality, we really want good value but no second bests. We waited until the final day of the sale .. the discount increased a bit, we jumped in.
e) For the wedding rings ... We exchanged our Tesco tokens for Goldsmith's tokens using the x4 Multiplyer, I dont really like the shop but ... this took the sting out the costs, we got what we wanted, in some sense almost free (since we need to eat anyway and Tesco's food is quite reasonable really) and we got what we wanted.0 -

I bought a ring from Tesco 1/3 carat, yellow gold, only 9k but i prefer that, it was in the sale for £139!! It arrived today and it is lovely.... the diamond is just big enough for me, and i'm sure the equivalent would have cost £500 in a conventional high street jeweller.
Thanks show me the money, for the tip!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
I've just looked on Tesco.com, they've got a jewellery sale...
They're advertising two rings in particular that I noticed - a 9ct gold 1/2 carat diamond solitaire ring for £499 and an 18ct gold 1/2 carat diamond solitaire ring for £495!

They also have two identical platinum diamond solitaires - again 1/2 carat diamond - one is size R for £698.50 and one is size S for £1,397. It costs about £40 to get a platinum ring resized... well worth getting the cheaper ring and having it resized.

Hi,
Engagements rings !!!!!!!
I must say having read the thread, I have now visited most of the sites mentioned and have to say No1 Rock Avenue, look not only to be the cheapest but also the most responsive. I have been in contact with the guy Nicholas and he is making me up a 1/2ct D/Vs Princess Cut Diamond ring in platinum. It is due to be with me next week, so i will update, when received. I have added their link below, however if you do not see what you want contact them, they found me something.

Retailers like Argos and H Samuel are fine for people who really don't have much to spend. However most good jewellers have internet sites these days. I think that there is far too much emphasis on the certification of diamonds. You should buy what you like, the purchase is for emotional reasons, your engagement, therefore your ring should bring out an emotional response.
All jewellers that sell online will have a 'special offers' section, a lot of the time this will have offers that are online only.
After using the competition forums here I noticed that www.cliveranger.co.uk have got a 20% off sale on rings at the moment. Its always worth a look, you may get a bargain."I AM DEATH, NOT TAXES. I TURN UP ONLY ONCE."- Terry Pratchett0 -
Over the moon, the ring came yesterday from No1 Rock Avenue, exactly as described, with certificate, i just hope she says Yes! Maybe it is not so romantic as choosing at a jewellers, however I have saved at least £1000 which will pay for a few romantic weekends away. I have listed some pics below just for your interest0
