Best place to buy an engangement ring.

My advice would be to buy an antique (rather than just secondhand) ring, they are usually better quality and they hold their price - new jewellery depreciates rapidly. Before I met my gorgeous hubby I was engaged to someone else - we split up eighteen months before I got together with OH - and when we parted I thought about selling the engagement ring as I wouldn't wear it and it seemed a shame for it to sit in a draw. Anyway, the rrp was £800 and when I went to sell it I would have been lucky to get £100 although, in the end, I didn't sell it.
When I got engaged to my OH two and a half years later I decided to buy an antique ring and ended up with a beautiful, unusual ring that no one else has. People often comment on how lovely it is and when I chose it the lady in the shop told me I had picked out the oldest ring there. I love it - mind, I have no intention of selling this one!0 -
dont know if its been mentioned but QVC are very good have a lot more choice than your standard jewellers some unusual stones as well that you never see anywhere else, a lot are 14 carat gold, you also have a 30 day no quibble money back guarantee just in case she doesnt like it or doesnt fit, you can watch the jewellery hours or look on line. 've had a lot of rings from them.0

If you google the company they seem to have a good write up. Their website also tells you all there is to know about buying engagement rings.
I'm sorry but I had to warn about this company. We got my engagement ring from them - by complete coincidence it turns out that they are based only a mile up the road from where we live, so were quite happy to order online.
However when there were problems with the ring the owner of the Beautiful Company was rude and abusive repeatedly, even though we were just being nice and normal and reasonable with him.
It really upset both of us and we deeply regretted having purchased from there. When buying something expensive like jewellery onlin you really need reassurance that the company provides a good service - but unfortunately this company can NOT be relied up for this.
Sorry I can't recommend anywhere that IS good - but there seem to be lots of other good suggestions on this thread0 -
I posted a similar post to the one above giving my opinion on Cool Diamonds. This was on a comparison site that invites comments. The company responded giving my full name.
Is that legal or does that contravene Data Protection Act?
Nothing I wrote was untrue. Although they commented that I said the ring size was comfortable, which is not true, as I told them it was too big on both occasions.“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.”

I bought my OH one of these and she loves it. Cleans it very nicely, plus i can use it on my watch and cufflinks
I wonder if this is the same thing that CoolDiamonds offered to sell to me for £65?“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.”

hehe, i wonder if Cool Diamonds was the place where we bought my OH her ring. It's was not on Hatton garden (The road) but the street that adjoins it.
Anyway our shop gave us a rubbish battery powered one.. I found them ok.. but we did spend over 4 grand with them and I'd hope you get treated nicely when spending that kind of cash. They didn't like haggling much.. haha, I let my wonderful fiancee do that - she's not scared of haggling and was in a better bargaining position than I was
Anyway, the cleaner is normally 40 quid at Maplin, it will turn itself off automatically after 3 minutes and came with holders for jewelery, CD's (we use this to hold the ring) and watches.0 -
It' s been interesting reading this but I have a couple of questions if anyone could help out. My husband is buying me a ring as an Xmas present to replace my now too small wedding ring, and stone missing engagement ring which were bought in our early years very cheaply, his wedding ring broke! I want something that isn't too conventional and silver in colour, possibly with a black diamond. We live in the Midlands so the jewellery quarter in Brum seems a logical choice but I am concerned that they may take advantage of the fact that we know nothing about jewellery unlike somewhere on the High St where everything is priced. Are we better off going to buy the ring this side of Xmas or waiting for January, do they have sales?0

Have you seen https://www.geraldonline.com ? I've ordered from them in the past and the quality is pretty good. A lot of the engagement rings come with certified diamonds as well, you also get £12.50 cashback from Topcashback.0
