Congrats! I have to second Martin's advice, in so far as it's often cheaper to get it made by a local independant jeweller.

For some reason I always knew what ring I wanted, in fact I drew it for the jeweller and he got out some diamonds and stuck them onto some clay like stuff. Surprisingly the size of diamonds I imagined didn't look right together so I went smaller. The ring was a princess cut with baguettes either side graduating down in size.

Couldn't afford the princess cut middle stone, as it was over a carrat so we substituted it for a cz. I got the ring I dreamt of all my life. The ring cost £700. We had the CZ changed for a grade E diamond on our 10th wedding anniversary, the ring is valued at over £5k now.

Bottom line though is that you love each other and have a healthy baby.
  • I have found a link too that offers cheaper price because they don't have retail stores so they charge a low price but high quality diamond engagement rings for online buyers to choose from. Engagementrings website

I did not have an engagement ring when we married and we are thinking of buying now. I have probably £500 total monetary value in Tesco points which would like to spend before terms and conditions change. Have got several ideas but am wondering about putting them towards an engagement ring at Goldsmiths. We are probably looking at spending abut £1000 in total.
So my question is should I consider buying at Goldsmiths if I can see a ring I like? How overpriced are they. What would a £1000 Goldsmiths ring cost in Birmingham?

as a follow up to my post about maybe getting a diamond am also thinking of spending my money elsewhere and going for Moissanite. Does anyone have experience of a moissanite ring? The only adverse thing I have read (most people just think you have sparkly diamond) was one girl on a yahoo forum who said they look amazing in sunlight and artificial light but not as sparkly as a dimond in normal daylight - this has put me off
    Any thoughts anyone?

  • Hi, I also got my girlfriend from Nicholas at No 1 Rock Avenue and it was significantly cheaper than anywhere else I could find. My girlfriend was delighted to. She asked me to post the following:

We had recently purchased an engagement ring from No1 Rock aVenue. It's a GIA certificated diamond, round brilliant cut, 0.5 carat, H colour, SI1 clarity and very good cut, excellent finish. I'm (the bride to be) completely satisfied with the ring (the quality of diamond and setting etc) and the service Nicholas had provided. The price is reasonable. There were a couple of times that I've passed the window of some local jewelry shops. I had compared my ring with the rings showed in the window at similar price range. My ring is clearly bigger, brighter and the setting is much more elegant and sophisticated. I'm a scientist working in a laboratory, I used the 10X lens from the microscope to observe the diamond. I saw the laser GIA number, which is the exact number from the certificated they had provided, is right there on the edge of the diamond. This shows that this company is reliable and honest. I'm strongly recommended this website. Also, special thanks to my beloved fiancee. Without him, I cannot be the happiest bride to be.
