Best place to buy an engangement ring.

My engagement ring was second-hand. I knew my (now) husband only had a limited budget so it was my suggestion to look at second-hand rings. We went to an independent jeweller and spent most of an afternoon in there choosing the ring. There was a good choice at reasonable prices. I'd recommend it!0

My fiance and I went to Cool Diamonds, Hatton Gardens, to buy my engagement ring. On the first visit, ie the selling part, the service was unsurprisingly very good. However, the sales person measured my ring size incorrectly and the ring, when it was ready, was far too big (ie size H1/2 instead of G).
I had to have sizing beads put in. This time another assistant measured my ring size and I left the ring at the showroom. This was when the poor service started.
On Friday, I was told by an assistant that the ring was ready for me to pick up. I wasted half an hour going there, waiting for 15 minutes before I was told it wasn't actually ready, the person I had spoken to on the phone had made a mistake, so could I return on Monday. Of course, then I had to battle with the lunch-time traffic to return to work.
On Monday, no one called me to say the ring was ready. In fact, I didn’t get the call until after I chased them up the following day. The reason I wasn’t called on Monday? Someone was away. Sorry… someone is away so no one else can make a phone call to say that the ring was ready? Hmmm.
When I returned to the showroom on Tuesday, the assistant, who had measured me the second time gave me the ring back. When I tried it on, she said it was still too big, but that I should try it for a short time to see how it was. She was the one who told me my new ring size, so perhaps she should have measured my finger properly!
Meanwhile I went to another jewellers, who said that the original engagement ring was actually a size and a half too big for me. Given that it swirls round and round my finger, yes I agree.
I can't wear my ring because it was so big and kept rotating around my finger, so I emailed Cool Diamonds to ask if they would resize again, given that I had both times acted on their advice and got a wrong size ring. I was told they would, but at a price of £65!
The email said: 'If you would like to discuss having any changes made to the ring I would recommend coming in to see Isabelle who can talk you through the different options and costs and hopefully make sure it is right this time.'
Firstly, it's distressing that the person who should have been discussing ring sizes with me hadn't seen me already. Secondly, even if I was willing to pay £65 to correct Cool Diamond’s errors, the best I could expect was 'hopefully make sure it is right' and not 'make sure it is right'.
Given that they couldn’t even tell the difference between when a ring is ready or not, I wonder if there is hope for getting the ring the right size the third time!
I also asked if they provided a free cleaning service, like some of the other jewellers at Hatton Gardens. The cleaning service is provided at a price of £65.
I was very disappointed with the poor after care at Cool Diamonds and I would certainly not be recommending them to anyone. It was their responsibility to measure my ring size properly on both occasions and on both occasions they failed. I am not the expert, so if a jeweller tells me that that is my size, I believe him or her.
I now have an engagement ring that I cannot wear because I am worried it will fall off. It is not fit for its purpose.
The fact that they charge £65 for cleaning when other jewellers offer it for free is a good enough reason to go to another jeweller.
Because it’s my engagement ring, ie a token for a happy event, I have not made a big issue out of this, eg reported the matter to Trading Standards etc, if it was anything else, I would have. I’m sure other people are of the same view.
Ladies and gents: I would never go to Cool Diamonds again, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

Personally I wouldnt buy a diamond ring from this country as you dont get much for your money.
And yes we visited place like the Jewellery Quarter !
Try one from this site http://www.mondera.com/0 -
Have you tried QVC? I have had a few bits of jewellery from them and always been pleased with it - also valued at more than I paid for it. www.qvcuk.com - and if she doesn't like it you can send it back lol.0
