Odd one...fridge dumped in front of my front door and council say its tough....

I own a flat which we've been doing up for a few months and have secured tenants who are moving in next weekend.
The flat is empty and we don't live in the area, we were away for a week to come back and discover a huge disgusting rusty fridge freezer dumped on our path of our front garden meaning access in and out of the flat is almost impossible.
I called the local council who said its tough as its on private property and they can't help. I've paid council tax on the property since I've owned it, even had a skip at the property the month before to legally dispose of building materials we had and now this.
I said to the council if I was on benefits, disable or a single mum you'd move it free of charge and by not doing you are discriminating me. They said they go out and have a look but that was days ago and they've not got back to me despite promising to.
They even had the cheek to say if I move it onto the path (i.e. the public highway) they know who I am now they will prosecute me £20,000!
I have tenants moving in next week who won't be able to move their furniture in and I refuse to pay to get it removed.
Any advice?????

Find the address of the nearest council worker and dump it on their drive way in the middle of the night, then hide and keep watch...
I bet the council will turn up and take it away free of charge!
How much is it to dispose of it?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
It costs, what? £10-20 to get it lifted by the council. Pay to get it moved & get on with your life. What's the alternative?"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.

Its £30 for the council to move it but they can't do it for 2/3 weeks anyway!!!! In the meantime even if I do pay the money to get it moved, I'd have to get it moved onto the path (public highway) for the new tenants moving in and he has told me, that he knows who I am and they will fine me if I do that!!!!
I don't want to pay them on principal, every department I have to deal with at the council are useless.
I think I should just give up work, have 10 kids and get a free house as they'd move it then!0 -
Can you find someone with a skip and give them £20 if you can put it in??
Councils are generally useless! Ours took 6 weeks to deliver a bin once, although I could have it there and then if I was willing to walk round and carry it home!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

I'd be tempted to call a man with a van or some advert in the back of the local rag who deal with this type of thing privately. I remeber clearing a flat out and paying someone £20 to come and take away a load of old broken furniture.
Then I'd write a nice stinky complaint letter to the council asking why you pay your council tax if things can get dumped like this was onto your property and then you end up having to deal with it.
it's totally unfair and disgusting attitude from local councils that's happening far to much

While I sympathise with your situation please don't assume the above!
I'm on benefits, am a single mum and have a disabled child but I still had to pay my council to have a washing machine, fridge and double bed removed from in front of my house before I could move in because it was privately rented.
Oh, and I still manage to work (part-time), couldn't cope with 10 kids, and my house certainly isn't free:p

those of us who live in the more rural areas have got used to the idea that any old bit of land can be used to dump rubbish on (you'll know about this if you listen to the Archers). The fridge is just a variation on this. Maybe the council should be authorised to remove this kind of waste which is tipped illegally but then how would you tell if the person was telling the truth about where it came from.... the whole problem comes from charging to dispose of waste in the first place and as more and more charges come in, it will get more and more common.0

Is it to big to go into your car?
Sounds like you have been doing lots of work on the property. You must know someone who has a van and would move it for a couple of cans of beer?
btw: not all of us that work for the council are crap. Its mainly the plebs who think they are owed something that are the problem..Starting debt @ LBM: £8436.51 (8/5/7)

have you tried calling your local newspaper?
Be amazed how quick these things can be resolved when the press calls the local councilor.0 -

Don't worry, if you ever read the Daily Mail, you'll know people like Becks never let facts get in the way of a good rant."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
