Debt collector driving on bus lane in italy

I got the same letter from Waters and Gate in December and have ignored up to now - I have contacted local solicitors and they wont touch as its based on issue in Italy. The amount is completely incommensurate with the accusation of driving down a restricted road and the notice of debt collection doesn't even have a reference to what the incident was in the first place - I am glad I read the above thread and will certainly not take action unless dragged into court. I am sure there are more like me/us

I got a Letter from Waters and Gate too yesterday asking for over £600 and decided to ignore it too. 
I was not even the driver at the time ( 2 of us were put on the rental), however my work credit card was used for the booking. 

I have saved the thread and will keep updating as things developed.

I have got a notice of collection proceedings letter from Waters and Gate in June 2020 .
The letter says: " We have been instructed by The Municipality of Rome to recover full payment relating to vehicle infringement"
I have emailed Comune Roma - Dip. Ris. Economiche  regarding the payment I have made:

Dear Sirs,

Please  find attached evidence of payment in regards with offence ID : ******; 

Plate No. **** ***.

I am surprised to find out,that I have made a typing error in the payment reference.

I have sent a payment with Ref. ****** instead of ******.

The money is in your account, please sort out my penalty ticket.

Could you also advise your debt collectors to stop sending me letters

The payment refers to the fine Y/111111-1111111, whereas the reminder from the collection debt agency to the fine Y/2222222-22222222.
We are sorry, but your case does not fall within our competence anymore, since it is now managed by the debt collection agency that sent you reminder.
For further information, please contact them directly.

Dear Sirs,
I understand that I have done a typing error in the payment process.
I have sent a payment with Ref. ****** instead of ******.
The payment refers to the fine Y/1111111-11111111, whereas the reminder from the collection debt agency
to the fine Y/2222222-2222222.
That doesn't mean I haven't paid the penalty ticket.
You can always check my name against the payment I have made and where it is coming from,
regardless the typing error I have done .
Please confirm you have got the payment, as I have provided previously evidence of bank transfer with
the relevant amount of money have been paid into your bank account
Could you also advise your debt collectors to stop sending me letters

Jumping in with my own case, will provide updates on what happens. W&G have just written me on friday.. first thing I've seen of any offense that I supposedly commited 9 months ago in Pisa - Demand of £726.16
All it says is 'vehicle infringement/s'

As an update to my previous post:
My wife took a call today on our house phone (which is ex-directory) asking for me by my first name , she said I was busy and asked who it was , the Geordie sounding lady said she was from a debt collection agency and that she would call back in an hour or so but hasn’t done (yet) - my wife knows nothing about this and would freak more than me.  This has to be the same firm as I have no other problems.
Firstly it seems tht they chase me at the end/start of each year and, secondly, should I be worried?  If they have found my number and have my address can they turn up at the door ? and if they do will the police help me ?
