Hi,
3 years ago I mistakenly drove on a buslane in italy while on holiday in a hire car. I didn't realise I would be fined until 6 mths later when receiving a letter from italy via the hire company. I paid the hire company their charge as it is in the terms/conditions but didn't pay fine as it was about 3 times original and I didn't get a chance to pay it as it was outside the 7 day window. Anyhow just this week I received a letter from a debt collector asking for nearly £300. I dont live at that address anymore so should I just ignore this?

Ignore them. See what they do. Drag you to Rome for sentencing?

That's what I thought. I found another thread on here just now with someone in a similar situation driving in italy and being contacted by waters and gate.

Can my credit rating be affected at all?

Nothing in Italy can affect your credit rating.

NO it has to have gone through a UK court first and with
the new debt protocol in place, they have to tell you
    before that happens.
PLUS, they would have to own the debt which is overseas

    They sound like chancers

It would have to be an italian court right? The creditors would hardly take it that far??

I doubt that would happen, they would need to get
    you there first

Suggest you ignore, see what happens if anything

It is not a good idea to converse with a debt collector
as they will pester you when they know you might
    be a mug
