I really love counting change - my hubby laughs at me but i really love sorting it all out and bagging it up
Comp Wins 2011 : Cant wait to start listing everything:j:j:j0 -
We are quite good at not borrowing from the change jar so we use an old Jack Daniels tin. I count it up and take it to the bank probably 4 times a year and when I took it to the bank last month (half full) it had £65 in it.
We throw anything in thats less than a pound and pound coins have to go in if you have more than 5!0 -
 We have The Change Tub. We put in what we can and take out what we need.
Everybody slings in their small change a couple of times a week and if we need to buy an unscheduled choccy bar,
or pay £1 to the School for Mufti Day etc, there's always some money in there.
We're pretty strict about the budget, don't really have any spending money as such any more, and all extra cash gets thrown into the enormous pit of debt rather than saved up, but small change is free money.
Our Change Tub pays for my semi-regular Bounty Bar habit, My daughter got some spot treatment and a new school pen out of it this month, and my son bought a deodorant so he can keep one at his gf's and some crisps and mints to keep in his drawer at work - but he probably puts more in than anybody because he hates carrying change around.
We're taking pudding to dinner at MIL's tomorrow so I'll count the coins in a mo to see if I'm making one or buying one.
Buying one is SO much easier for all concerned. MIL wouldn't dream of criticising the culinary skills of Mr Marks or Mr Spencer but she's only too happy to give me lots of "hints and tips"
which makes me grumpy and then everybody suffers.

It's been really interesting seeing what everybody else does with their money.

What a great thread.
We have two money boxes...one is an old demi-john that everything gets put in to and the other is my sons old Christening money box that the £2 coins get put in to.
The kids each have their own money boxes and when it is time for a clear out they each get some money and the rest goes in the demi-john.

I only save 1p's, 2p's and 5p's right now and just lob them all into a big Roses tin and then take them to a coinstar machine every now and then, that sorts it for me!
Do those coinstar machines not charge about 4%??
I get the kids to count mine out, then I bag it up, take it to the shop, they weigh it and give me the money. The local shop gets charged a commission for buying change from the banks and post office, so they're always happy to take my change, no matter how much there is.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
The coinstar near us charges 8% :eek:0

i have a taramundi pot for £1 & £2 (doesnt' often get fed) a tin for silver and one for coppers, I've had the last two since i was a child, my parents started my sister and i savings coppers for spending money on our rare holidays.
I've now got my OH to stop throwing (literally throwing) his 5ps and less away, now he saves them and gives them to me to put in my tins when i visit him. He spends more cash than me and it soon mounts up to £5 or so when i put it in the bank0 -
Watch out for those, the one at my local supermarket charges 7.9pence per £ to sort it :mad:I only save 1p's, 2p's and 5p's right now and just lob them all into a big Roses tin and then take them to a coinstar machine every now and then, that sorts it for me!'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde0 -
