I've asked father Christmas for money boxes :o , I have a tin at the mo, for the loose change challenge and some of it is in money bags and sorted. But I do like to count it regularly so I couldn't be having it in a difficult to get at receptacle. (sp?)

I just have a huge coke bottle that we chuck anything under 10p in then we go weigh it in at sainsburys when we go on holiday it usually pays for the girls spending money - the girls call it the "ice cream bottle"

But we don't carry cash around with us really in one week between us we will only have about £3 so cash savings is a bit irrelevant - we do however have organised savings accounts and ISAs.

I have an old jack daniels bottle that 5p go in, a small metal bucket that coppers go in, 2 pound coins go in the kids money boxes intheir bedroom, 10p go in the kids money boxes in the kitchen and anything else goes in my piggy, tbh the piggy gets raided regulary for car parking etc so keeping the rest separate is a good idea i think.

  • Did you point out to your OH that it would take longer to sort all the change to take to a bank after it had all been thrown in together?

I sort my change before putting it away but we seem to have a problem with money boxes (they always get smashed!!) so the £1 and £2 coins go in a big tin that we can't open and the other coins go in old pasta sauce jars!!

Dee - If you didn't sort out your change before putting it in the jars, but went to each jar for each coin as you were putting away the coins, that would be quite a bit of exercise and you could argue you're saving on gym fees.

  • I have jam jar for copper and 5ps.

Someone should make a tin with compartments for the different coin (& note??) denominations. Would make it a heck of a lot easier than having it all jumbled together or having loads of individual tins/piggy banks.
