MSE News: Octopus Energy to take on Iresa's 90,000 customers - here's what you need to know

40% rise in Kwh rate 10.8p to (what looks like) 15.19p on 10,000kw that is over £400 per annum. Not happy at all.0

If you have a phone that can take Apps,Pure Planet are very reasonable, Gas:2.762p per kwh,Electric:11.52p per kwh
Thanks for this. I just got a quote for:
Membership fee £ 8.5 a month =£102
Members' rate 12.18 pence per kWh
I'm assuming there is no daily charge on top of this. ?? If there isn't, its not a bad deal at all, as you have to remember, Octopus inc vat & the yearly/day rate is around £20 cheaper.
I think that Octopus should give the customers the same rate as Iresa for 60 days to let us have the chance to shop around.0 -
Awesome, so that's another approx £100 a year for me on their 'cheapest tariff' (apparently - the fix is cheaper than their variable it seems too).
Wonder what I'd be getting for the extra £100 expenditure?The_Reaper wrote: »I moved house over a year ago.
Iresa completely cocked up and after I long battled I was paid my credit plus compensation after going to energy ombudsman.
Out of the blue today I have received a "final meter reading" for electricity. Logging into my Iresa account shows them randomly deciding to start billing me again from November last year.
I assume this balance will be passed on to Octopus. Sounds like another case to be opened with the ombudsman.
I have never been happier to see such a vile incompetent company go under.
Same here, Left for E.ON last October and settled the account (after having to raise a complaint to get them to do so). I got the same email as you the other day, and the 'welcome to Octopus' email today. Checking my Iresa account (which still exists) there are £127 of spurious electricity charges, and an odd 24p debt on the gas.
Now I have to wait and see if Octopus will actually try and take over the account. Think I'll drop a line to E.ON asking them to refuse the transfer if they do. Frustratingly I'll be entering the last 49 days of my current E.ON tariff, and I might actually want to switch soon, so this is a headache I didn't need.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). I've had the e-mail and replied that I will be leaving ASAP. Octopus is not competitive.0

This is an awful choice for consumers.
I have lodged a complaint with Ofgen because of the wording in the email indicates you cannot now switch.
I blame ofgen for the bummed advice given.
I have switched elsewhere, but no idea if it will go through or not now
Compare the prices :-
electric
iresa
11.218p Per Unit &16.84 Daily Charge
octopus
14.95 Per Unit & 19.37p Daily Charge
gas
iresa 2.768p Per unit &16.05p daily charge
octopus 3.01p per unit & 16.8p daily charge
I'd be £500 worse off

An interesting twist to this.
I have just come across someone selling a house. the conveyancing process has stalled because they want the energy supplier name and account number. He gave IRESA but they came straight back and told him they have ceased trading. So it looks like the sale is stalled until Octopus get their finger out and allocate him a customer number. And how long will that take?0 -
Email from octopus finally arrived. Can't believe the transfer is going to take so long.
Have let them know I have no intention of staying not sure if that moves you to the top or bottom of the transfer list.0 -

If you used the links on the email to reply, I think that it is anonymous -Octopus are just trying to get a handle on how many new customers they are going to have after the dust settles.
I suspect that it will only be a few hundred given the prices are so much worse than the Iresa prices!!:(0
