Using CEC to control sky box

I have a Saumsung TV and a Sky+ HD box. I control both with the Samsung smart remote. I recently got a new TV unit and the Sky box now sits behind a door. I thought I'd be able to control it with CEC like I do with some other devices connected to the TV, but I can't make it work. Is it possible to make it work or am I wasting my time?

I've found CEC to be more trouble than it's worth and I don't think the Sky box has ever been controllable by it (may be wrong on that bit).
Was the Sky box just receiving a signal direct from the remote rather than through the TV?0 -
Yes it was previously just getting a signal straight from the remote.Hi. I'm a Board Guide on the Gaming, Consumer Rights, Ebay and Praise/Vent boards. If it was getting the signal from your remote then that isnt CEC, CEC is over HDMI if I am not mistaken. are you sure you didnt just have your remote programmed to use the sky box the way you would with a universal remote?0

You might have to buy a remote control extender that puts a small receiver above your cabinet and then a small transmitter inside the cabinet and it will relay your remote signals to the sky box. They are USB powered and work well. You can also get ones that use the HDMI cable if your TV and cabinet are far apartChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

You could always download and use the Sky+ app.0

You've misunderstood my problem. I know for a fact that I was not using CEC before. I want to now though. Because I now have my Sky box behind a door.Hi. I guess you have checked the TV menu and the Sky+ menu to make sure CEC is enabled?
If you have, then try a different cable. A cheap cable might not have a CEC wire, though it really should.
If it still doesn't work, then one of your devices doesn't support it.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Ooh good idea with the cable... I can switch it with the one that I've used for CEC begfore and see if that fixes it!Hi. I'm a Board Guide on the Gaming, Consumer Rights, Ebay and Praise/Vent boards. Just an update in case anyone else has this issue.
I tried a cable I know works with CEC in the port I know works with CEC on my TV. Turned on HDMI control on the Sky Box and TV. Just didn't work. I can only assume my Sky Box is not compatible with CEC in this manner.
So, I got a "sky eye" type device and it works perfectly. My Sky Box doesn't have an RF2 output though so I got an I/O to RF converter thingy and plugged the Sky Eye into that. Then plugged it using a coax cable into the TV aerial IN. Works like a charm.Hi. I'm a Board Guide on the Gaming, Consumer Rights, Ebay and Praise/Vent boards.
