Sacrifice an engine which could be replaced or possibly repaired or risk the lives of the occupant/s of both your vehicle and any other vehicles that you may have to pull in front of whilst you might not have full control of your car.0 -
Who ever suggested you should?
Neutral, ignition off, hazards on, glide left to the shoulder on the vast amount of momentum you've got.
Out of interest, how do you turn off the engine of a car with a start/stop button and no key, when travelling at speed? I thought they were designed not to switch off when moving, in case the button was pressed accidentally.
Not sure when this was introduced to all models, but I suspect it wouldn’t be as easy as turning a key.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

Had to google that! I've learnt something new today.0 -
The engine has seized solid.
The independent garage said there will be significant damage inside the engine. The oil basically came out engine and car cut out on motorway.
To inspect further will be more cost to me.0 -
If you google 'sump plug fell out' you'll see it does happen; sometimes months later; usually when whoever did the last oil change damaged the sump threads or the threads were damaged anyway and it was ignored. One reason why I do my own oil changes and always add locktite to the sump plug.0

Oil is checked on long journeys I have only done a couple anyway and the car is just over 3 months from last MOT service.
No previous warnings lights or leaks virtually instant on the motorway.
30 seconds on the motorway max from light to cut out and then to move over to hard shoulder.
My only thought is was the car serviced incorrectly , is this a major fault on BMW X1 E84 2011 engines ? Did An object actually puncture plug or damage resulting in oil leak with object on motorway?
What would your opinion be or what would you advise ?
Thanks
Look for a secondhand engine and get it fitted
Sell it as it is0 -
I couldn!!!8217;t stop in a live lane on motorway.Who ever suggested you should?

Yep, that's what the hard shoulder is for! Don't worry about sticking to 70, and if you're really worried about safety, you've just dumped an oil slick on a motorway like !!!! Dastardly, make sure the authorities know about that.Had to google that! I've learnt something new today.
