Brexit the economy and house prices part 6

Politics here has become about who can bribe their supporter base in the most efficient manner.
I detest the way Working Tax Credits creates imbalances, and yet I can still believe in a socially based society.
I want these mega Tech giants to pay some bl**dy tax for the society they are reaping great return from. Stop being so flaming parasitic.
But that tax needs to be spent on great infrastructure, with top end local public transport. Don't squander it on stupid throwaways like the free laptop scheme.
I agree..... capitalism is broken!0 -
Nope. Not true, I'm afraid.
Try visiting some of the more modern malls in China, and have a look at the type of shops which attract queues.
Some of these places are like high end brand heaven. But...they can spot a dud.
China also has malls full of counterfeits.
Even then, the EU seems to be working on trade arrangements with China (albeit they are stuck at respect of copyright). So I'm still not sure where the advantage of Brexit is; will we be able to negotiate a FTA with China before the EU does? That protects our manufacturers from counterfeits?
I agree that China is a big market, I just don't see it as jeapordizing trade with the EU over.0 -
So I'm still not sure where the advantage of Brexit is;
1) We carry on trading with Europe perfectly well, business soon adapts to whatever Brexit throws-up. As the boss of Next said on Marr today, bonded warehousing and such will ensure even a no-deal will be fine for UK-EU trade, everything will adapt.
2) We're fully autonomous globally to make the most of the 95% of growth beyond the EU.
3) We have full accountability; the buck stops with Parliament in future.
Look at the UBS report into the Brexit forecasts. It confirms pretty much all these forecasts rely on nothing but guess work and very rigid assumptions. Project Fear really is just nothing but guess work.Restless, somebody pour me a vino.0 -
When strangely it's remainers like yourself wanting to stay in the past, clinging to the skirts of the EU for protection instead of moving on as Brexiters want to do.
When did we lose the right to campaign for re-joining the EU? Has there been a dictatorship declared, I may have missed it?Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
We'll see ...I predict a fudge
Predictions eh?That's not me .....I'd much rather a version of Chequers as a harm reduction option than a no deal.
That's not what your posts suggest. In fact you appear to be so bent on a WTO Brexit I wonder if you're a closet Brexiter. We are in Europe geographically...whether some like it or not !
PLEASE try to understand that Europe is not the EU. :wall:So what is Boris making such a big fuss about then?
I have absolutely no idea what you're on about since I did not mention Boris in the post you quote.
Feel free to expand upon your quoted comment.0 -

Paywalled but you can register for free & read it; it's self-explanatory.
This has been talked-about briefly here and ignored by those who for some reason rather consider the EU to be an open, accountable and honest organisation.
It isn't.
Some of the comments are very interesting too.
Like MPs have not abused their expenses too?Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
1) We carry on trading with Europe perfectly well, business soon adapts to whatever Brexit throws-up. As the boss of Next said on Marr today, bonded warehousing and such will ensure even a no-deal will be fine for UK-EU trade, everything will adapt.
Only if we get a deal that ensures that.2) We're fully autonomous globally to make the most of the 95% of growth beyond the EU.3) We have full accountability; the buck stops with Parliament in future.
2. Given how our current government are keen to get rid of EU accountability, and are happy to violate the rights of most groups, I'm not sure how the buck stopping at them is a good thing.0 -
Only if we get a deal that ensures that.
Only in as much as it doesn't interfere with the EU trade from #1. For example, if we have a customsless trading arrangement with China, then we won't be able to have a customsless trading arrangement with the EU, because there's no way to check that we're not going to act as a back door for Chinese quality stuff to flood the EU.
1. We'll continue to blame the EU for everything for decades to come.
2. Given how our current government are keen to get rid of EU accountability, and are happy to violate the rights of most groups, I'm not sure how the buck stopping at them is a good thing.
Just so that we're clear about this, which groups' rights are being violated by the government? We already know that the rights of those who voted to leave the EU are being violated by the remainer government so no need to mention them.0
