Brexit the economy and house prices part 6

I'm reinforced in my view that a WTO style Brexit and we pocket the EU subscription savings is going to be of net benefit to the UK.
Once Parliament has the steering wheel again, the UK can decide how many migrant workers stay here/are recruited going forward, since the high skilled ones are obviously important for our economy.
And as a big net importer of goods from EU, plus a cheap and expert source of manufacturing for some of their industrial behemoths, I'm certain that new EU trade deals will then be done with WTO as our initial position.0 -

...
I'm hoping that it is the start of a frank reassessment of where our society is heading.
I don't want a consumer fodder society, where the future is working in bleak warehouses for the masses.
I've always believed in sustainable use and repair of goods, to create a healthy secondary market which operates locally.
The idea that Jeff Bezos, the richest person on the planet, is interested in our local communities is nonsense. Globalists can not understand the dynamics in places they never visit.
We will still have resources post Brexit. It's a matter of where we focus those resources.
The real challenge lies with China. That's true for the Western world. They have the focus and directness we lack.0 -
When strangely it's remainers like yourself wanting to stay in the past, clinging to the skirts of the EU for protection instead of moving on as Brexiters want to do.
Yes moving on, to caravan magazines, mulling adverts for leather driving gloves, everyone throwing their car keys in the hat, UKIP meetings, and flashing the headlights in the New Forest.
I'll pass thanks.0 -
I'd love Brexit to result in a too down rethink of our country and a move towards better environment and sustainability. But I can only see it going in the other direction. The same establihmshemnt is in power with the same goals. The only thing that's changed is the opportunity to scrap "red tape" (environmental or workers rights).I have been in direct contact with a spokesman for one of those companies your piece refers to, and obviously it was an opportunity to raise the question.
You are right. He was rather more balanced than some of the grandstanding people we have the embarrassment to call MPs.
This is the point. I think many MPs are more interested in using Brexit for personal party gain over any national interest.
Where the heck was Corbyn during the Brexit referendum? It would have been easier to locate a stealth bomber in flight!
All of a sudden, they are pretending to be wise after the vote, which suggests they were ignorant during it.
I don't really trust spokespeople to give a fair appraisal on things like that, because the wrong words can hurt share prices, consumer confidence, etc. I'm also never sure how detached they are from the logistics.
Brexit will definitely provide some opportunities but I'm not sure where they lay for hi fi companies. At the low end of the market they can't compete with China, at the high end most of their customers reside within the EU or a nation with a trade agreement. Their customer base is largely price insensitive though, because the people who care about price are getting stuff from supermarkets. So where are the opportunities from Brexit? What is the EU preventing them doing?0 -

This sort of childish, playground, taunting is why remain lost, and continue to lose, Grow up.
ETA: You forgot to call Brexiters "Gammon", "Daily Mail Readers", and "Little Englanders" BTW.“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and who weren't so lazy.”0 -

Nope. Not true, I'm afraid.
Try visiting some of the more modern malls in China, and have a look at the type of shops which attract queues.
Some of these places are like high end brand heaven. But...they can spot a dud.0 -
I'll second that. And maybe...just maybe.....we could get some better calibre politicians on both sides of the house who actually realise the buck stops with them!
Politics here has become about who can bribe their supporter base in the most efficient manner.
I detest the way Working Tax Credits creates imbalances, and yet I can still believe in a socially based society.
I want these mega Tech giants to pay some bl**dy tax for the society they are reaping great return from. Stop being so flaming parasitic.
But that tax needs to be spent on great infrastructure, with top end local public transport. Don't squander it on stupid throwaways like the free laptop scheme.0 -
=wunferall;74914669]Nice though it is of someone to organise Brexit according to their own POV that's not how it really is.
For example regarding your last sentence, that is looking increasingly unlikely.I'm hearing on the radio this morning David Davis & the DUP organising rebellion which will in effect lead to a no-deal Brexit.
What I find strange is how any remainer can seem to be so eager for this yet consistently rebel against any form of Brexit.
My conclusion must be that it is no more than deliberate provocation of emotional reactions; deliberately controversial comments.Just to add:
1 Every country outside the EU is a "third country". That'll be most of the world then. How do they manage, not being in the EU?2 Customs for people is vastly different to trade. People arriving from Ireland & NI to mainland UK are already checked but you probably knew this. Try reading (just for example) the travel requirements of ferry operators or airlines.
So what is Boris making such a big fuss about then?0
