I'm planning a reduction in the number of current accounts I have in preparation for trying to get a mortgage in a year or so (I can't expect a lender/broker to look through all 13!). Having just checked it seems I don't need a Halifax current account to qualify for my HTB ISA or regular saver, so it has moved its way up the list for culling after the reward drops in October. As a higher rate taxpayer I can't be bothered with the monthly funding back and forth for net £1.50.

I have the ultimate reward account, now £15 a month, mainly for the annual travel insurance. I will look at the nationwide flex account in September.

I think you will be sadly disappointed. Their travel insurance is now only available to longstanding FlexAccount holders who have been, and are, depositing at least £750 a month.

They still do their FlexDirect though, paying 5% on up to £2,500 for a year if you haven't had one of those before. And unless I am mistaken, there's still their rather lucrative Refer A Friend offer. Plus they have a good Regular Saver.

Think i meant the flex plus account, it’s £2 a month cheaper plus I would get interest .

Yes, but you wouldn't get travel insurance, which you said was the main reason for having the Ultimate Reward account. This is what colsten was saying.

Of course, at a cost of £180 per year that's pretty expensive travel insurance!

According to the Nationwide website the Flexplus account still comes with worldwide travel insurance. We've got the account and use it for the mobile phone insurance as well so it's pretty good value.

They were also the only company who I could get to insure me after surgery, even though I wasn't travelling for nearly a year!

Thanks for clarifying. I was just going off what colsten had written.
  • Urgh, I am getting a bit sick of being reeled in by these things and then removing them. I feel there should be some sort of contractual agreement where existing customers keep their incentives!
