I won't be needing a lump sum of $ for another month or so. Therefore I haven't yet transferred any significant amounts of cash over yet.
I already have a US bank account so it shouldn't be a problem.
I've found this site that gives a good comparison for decent values -

seems a good little website!
let me know when you're transferring and if it goes ok. i'll do the same.
it's a little scary transferring such sums...
Indeed we are - let's hope it's all smooth sailing!
Many thanks for the link - looks good, and it doesn't seem as costly as I thought it might be. I will let you know how it goes - I probably won't transfer until late next month.
By the way, American Express have a system where you can transfer a UK-based credit card over to the States and therefore build up credit there. Someone on their phoneline said something about your UK credit rating being transferred to the States. Here's the website - hope it helps: http://www.americanexpress.com/globaltransfers/global_card_transfer_en.shtml

Which supermarket sells cheap Leffe? By the way, a store out there called BevMo! has the most amazing and extensive range of worldwide beers I've ever seen in my life... hic.
Bet you can't wait to fly on Tuesday! When I was waiting in the UK border control line the other day, for the first time I was beaming because I knew I would soon be back in the land of palm trees, pancakes and politeness0 -

I'd move to the states in a minute but unfortunately neither my Mrs or I have the chance do it even though both our employers have sister companies in the states.0
