What is the rate of exchange actually in the USA if you were to take sterling TC's? Any idea? It might be better there!
Outside tourist areas you might find difficulty in changing them at all.0 -
never ever take sterling travellers cheques... always take US $ travellers cheques.. in the most tourist of places, they really don't like sterling travellers cheques0

only take a small amount of traveller cheques or cash put everything else on a Nationwide credit card, that way you get bank rate rather than the tourist rate and hopefully be even better off.0

can anyone advise how long it has taken for them to get one of the Prepaid cards from somewhere such as FairFX.com?
Going to order today hopefully, but will be needing it for our departure on Sunday August 10th.
Site advises 7-10 days for delivery - does anyone know if 10 days is likely as that would be too late.0 -
We are going to America next May and I was wondering if it would be worth getting some Dollars now while the exchange is good, or chance it and wait until nearer the time?
Any help appreciated0 -

Nobody knows for certain. It depends which way you want to gamble.
One point to bear in mind is that next May is a long way ahead. Should your circumstances change and you are unable to go you will lose far more changing the $$ back than you will gain (if you do) in getting them now.0 -
have spent years using travellers cheques when going to america my partner has decided to just take $500 cash to San Fran and use his debit card (First direct) for any other cash he may need. is he right in thinking that travellers cheques are harder to use in america now adays? i havent been in nearly 5 years. i have looked that MSE page about it but its very confusing to me. if i follow suit with my OH i would be using HSBC card. any advice would be much appreciated0
