Right don't know if I am in the right place, but need to buy some Dollars for my brothers 30th Birthday - have decided on 78 Dollars as he was born in 1978 and it looks like it will be around the 40 odd quid mark (looked into 1978 lol and also 30 but not enough)

Anyway had a quick look on here and it looks like the good old Post Office is as good a place as any or is there anywhere else right now?

    Cheers

The good old P.O. is probably your best bet, because of the small amount involved. If you still bank with FD (as per your sig) you could compare the rate. I would suggest though that any saving made with anything that has to be delivered, the profit will be absorbed by postal costs.

  • I'm going to America near the end of July and was wodnering when would be the best time to change my £'s to $'s. Bit wary of the recent inflation dilema we are now faced with.
Also are clothes etc that much cheaper in America?

    Regards,

I travel every couple of years to the states and have opend a bank account with bank of america. Took about an hour. Now use currency exchange companies. I get far better exchange rates than any travel company, post office, etc. Some of trhese companies such as Currencies direct will require a minimum transfer such as £500 to £3000. I have saved hundreds of £'s using this method of getting my $'s

    Hope this helps

    Note To Karl.

Yes cloths are cheaper depending on where you are Check out the "Outet Malls" will find them close to all major cities

NY will be the cheapest. Friend came back on monday from NY. Always ask the bell hop in your hotel for the best deals. Las Vagas will be HOT

Wish i had a crystal ball about the rates - I dont see much change in the next couple of months. BUT I AM NO EXPERT. I often call currencies direct and ask them what they think usually get an inteligent responce.

If you expect to go back to the US think about a bank account. With bank of america it does not matter where you open the account. Just make sure you get the routing code. Its a number you neeed when transfering bfunds.

At $2 to £! I would be very interested. Where do you live
Aberdeenshire. The $2 to the £ was someone elses suggestion, not mine. My offer is $975 for £500 (ie $1.95 to the £). However, being a newcomer to this site, I am a trifle wary.

I do not blame you. I am down in the S. East of England. I cannot even start to think of the logiistics of having a fair swop without one or both of us being left out of pocket. I think I would have to pass. For the amount I would be changing I would get about 1.95 anyway so I do not think it would be to my advantage. Thank you all the same.

I know that. Adding on Special delivery rate make the transaction even less worth it. I would be loosing approxamately $10.
