Hi Folks, heading abroad next week and need to get some travellers cheques to give a landlord in New York for the cost of the Apartment we're staying in. It's for $1200 and I was hoping to put it on my Credit card for now. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get some that didn't charge for using my Credit Card? I asked in the Post Office but they said, depending on the amount required, there would be a charge. I'm afraid it would be something ridiculous! I'm considering making a Credit card cheque out to myself for the amount then going in to my bank to order the cheques. Anyone any recommendations?
Thanks you lot!!0 -
Surely it would be the same as making a cash withdrawal on your credit card, as you are virtually exchanging it for cash, therefore you would have to pay the credit card surcharge.
all the best

If you have an M&S card, you can withdraw money from their BdeC without this fee. It's one of the "perks" Don't know if any other "travel" based credit cards offer this service.0 -
As the phatbear says, you will be charged for a cash withdrawal and start paying interest straight away!!

Cheers guys! It's an absolute cheek what the card companies have done there! The customer will always be ripped off, it's that simple! :mad:0 -
Cross posted to other thread... hope this is ok.
hi, I hope someone can help me...
In 10 days time I leave for a couple of months travelling in the US and in Europe. I stupidly didn't even think to consider opening a new bank account just for these purposes. So, at this point, what would be the best thing for me to do? Between my husband and I, we have a few credit cards (visa and Mastercard with different providers) which we could use. I'm sure it'll be easy to use these in the states but I know I am looking at a 2.75% surcharge which is certainly going to add up.
We will take some cash with us and ensure we get the best possible exchange rate through this site, but with only 10 days to go, what would be the best way to manage our spending?
Thanks in advance.0 -
Due to cardiac event I've had to cancel our trip to the US and now have £500 in dollars to dispose of. How can I maximise the exchange to £s?0

On the radio this morning one of the stories was someone saying that they expected the dollar to strengthen this year so if you are ganbler 'sitting on them' may be a bet.
