Hi,
I'm off on holiday to the maldives shortly, will need to get US$, and get a nice rate too, but the most important thing will be to get small notes. What is the best exchange to obtain small notes?

Hi
I would love some advice.
My son is about to go off to the states for 6 months. He is planning to take about £9000 - what would be the best way to take it?
Dollars?
Travellers cheques?
money card?
credit card?
The rate is good just now.
Thanks for any help.I used to have a life............................... before MSE!!

my nan always swore that it was best kept under her mattress.....alternatively a search of the forum , a glance at the stickies at the top of the thread or even the article on the main site should provide the answers0

I always use American Express travellers cheques, they are accepted virtually everywhere and can be used just like money. Get them in 10$ or 20$ cheques, they are safer than cash. When you pay, you get the change in cash.
Also get a Nationwide Flex account with card (good conversion rates), and he can use hole in the wall to get his money in dollars.
Use credit card for only those things that have to be done using credit card, the rates will not be as good as Nationwide.0 -
Agree with aerostar - I would pay £7,000 into a nationwide Flex Account or Citibank US Dollar Account then use ATM's to withdraw over there - take £1500 in travellers cheques and £500 in cash.0

A quick mention should be made that if your son is detected with a large sum of money flying out of the country then he will be asked questions about the cash and if hae cant prove it is his and and where he got it from then it may be liable to detention by customs, just a thought.
all the best

does your son have a visa? the VWP only permits a 3 month stay..
as for US Customs, if you have over 10k in cash you have to declare it.0 -
