GBP pares losses after Jan unemployment data

(GBP) GBP trading a little firmer after UK Jan unemployment figures came in
better than expected rising by 73.8K, vs +90K consensus, though the u/e rate rose to 3.8%, its highest for 9 yrs. EUR/GBP down at 0.8960 (1.1161) from 0.8995 (1.1117), cable 1.4465 up from 1.4400.

Gbp reverses sharply as BOE in very downbeat mood

10:40 GMT - We warned of overly longing [GBP] on the back of the not as bad as forecast UK jobs report. The BOE is straight in to very downbeat mode, i.e. with King admitting the economy is in a 'deep recession', talked of just 0.5% inflation in 2 years and GDP indications around -4.00% in early 2009. On the Gbp front so far, Gov King repeats the Pound's sharp fall will help boost demand. Cable well off earlier intraday comeback highs of
1.4550/55 15 minutes or so ago and moving through initial bids seen 1.4445/50. The day's low of 1.4393 main bear target. Stops sub-1.4390.
