    haha, sorry
it did get as high as 1.4245, bit hit a bit of a wall
it really needs to break through 1.4250 to give it any chance of pushing much higher

drifted back down to 1.4130 now
but possibly just a bit of profit taking, seeing as it started the morning down at 1.3950

  • some encouraging, better than expected figures from CBI Rtail Sales Balance, has just seen it rally back upto 1.42

needs to get over that 1.4250 level still....

  • Currency watching is interesting to say the least, i'd hope the £ to the $ does rise substantially but i can't for the life of me see it hit $1.60/$1.70 soon, hope it does and higher before the summer though.
  • I am travelling to America june 1st, for a month. Can anyone tell me the best time to purchase my USD? As I am an unsure whether to get them now, whilst the rate is around 1.3-1.4, or to wait as the rate might increase? Also does this mean that the cost of things in America has decreased?? help

the best time to get them is when you're at your most comfortable i suppose!
when the rate hit $1.50 i thought it couldn't go down any further... obviously it has!

i travel to the US 10 or so times a year. i've found that things in the US are the same price as they've always been (except houses!)

This seems to be asked every week on this board, anyone who knew the answer would be a billionaire and be too busy enjoying the associated lifestyle to answer your question. Prices in the US are fairly stable as their petrol prices have halved in the last few months but with our poor exchange rates the days of Brits getting cheap stuff and carting it back to the UK seem to be ending.

in my opinion, i think gbp/usd is low enough, so i'd hang on and see if it gets back over 1.50
this is only my opinion, so it'll prob be 1.25 this time next week !

compared to a year ago, when you could get $2 for £1, it means things in the US will seem more expensive when converted into Pounds

ie. if something cost $50 a year ago, it meant approx £25 (using rate of 2.00)
if something costs $50 today, it now means approx £35 (using rate of 1.40)

    hope that helps
